The widget segment is searching for segments based on your current location in Strava so the unit needs both a GPS lock and an active connection to your phone.
I'm not sure if this is the same issue, but nearby segments (the meaning may vary depending on the language) aren't showing up. I noticed this after updating to 28.33.
This may have been happening before the 28.33 update. I don't know how long ago this happened.
I tried this, thinking the solution might be the same, but they still aren't showing up.
The two star-marked segments I normally use have downloaded correctly. I haven't ridden since the update, so I can't confirm whether they actually work in the field.
Just a note: Live segments worked fine on-site. Uploading to Strava via Connect also worked.
