Multiple route markers when routing

Hello,
I think there are two different things I don't understand:


1. When I route a route created and synchronized with Komoot, I sometimes get two different route markers. One is exactly on the OSM way on the map, and a second is not exactly on the OSM map. One shows the turns, I assume that is the one routed by the device, and the other shows the direction arrows. What is or should this be?

2. I'm getting ghost lines sometimes. I think this is a firmware bug, or am I wrong?

    Can it has to do with the gpx made on komoot, and that the roads on both maps not exactly the same ?
    I see it also, while using someone's gpx and place it on my latest openstreetmap and see little differences.

    1- The magenta line with the black border is the track from the file.

    2- The magenta line is the route the device calculates from “walking” the track.

    (Note that the track line is narrower (and overlays) the calculate route line.)

    Keep in mind there are no turn instructions (“turn guidance”, in Garmin parlance) in the track file (*).

    To get “turn guidance”, the device creates a second route by picking the nearby roads/ways on the internal map that the track appears to follow. (You'll get just the calculated route line if you have the device create a route for you.)

    These two lines (routes) can separate when the when a different map is being used to plan the route than what’s installed on the device  (typically, Openstreetmap (OSM) maps).

    You will see these separations much less frequently if you use the same map source as installed on the device when planning the route.

    Roads won’t necessarily be in the same exact location on different maps.

    You end up using two navigation methods at the same time: basic track following and using “turn guidance” (the big white arrows).

    This process is fairly clever because it lets you get turn instructions for a recorded ride.

    * FIT and TCX files can contain “course points”, that provide basic turn instructions but those are not used in the process I’m talking about. These show up a magenta (on current devices) icons. These can be used for navigation. They are basically an extension of “track following”.

    The big white arrows (like the one in the middle above the current position marker) is associated with the calculated route.

    The chevrons (the little white pointed icons) are associated with the calculated route when you are using turn guidance. They are associated with the track line when not using turn guidance.

    It could be the file. Not enough info.

    Thanks for the detailed answer!

    I've also made progress through experimenting on my own. The GPX track created with Komoot is automatically synchronized with Garmin-Connect. Garmin-Connect then "filters" the synced GPX-track down to fewer track points. Therefore, the GPX-track becomes a bit "rougher".

    I'm aware of the difference between map-routing and GPX-routing. However, both options are apparently displayed.
    Is there a way to disable the GPX-path display when navigating along the GPX-route using map data? I find it a bit confusing to have both paths on the map at the same time.

    No, you can’t turn off the track line. 

    You might get used to it (I’ve never had an issue with it). It’s kind of a useful diagnostic for map issues. It’s also less of an issue if people use the same map for planning as the installed map.

    True on the 1050 but on the superior 1040 & other x40 / x30 devices you can make the track line transparent via MapTheme customisation. I would post screenshots I have posted previously  but forum is not allowing me at this time.
