I started having the exact same problem today.
I had this with a 1040 and what I did was
- Hold down the lap button and plug into USB of a PC (not Mac)
- Open the device and delete every file that wasn't write protected
- Unplug
I tried all the other reset techniques but this was the only thing that got it back. It deletes all your data. But better than a brick.
I held the power button until ‘Switch off’ appeared and was able to switch off the 1050 on the 20th attempt, before that it always restarted. After switching it off, I was able to reset it following these instructions:

All settings and values were lost, but this was not a problem as the 1050 was new.
