12.18 firmware
when i stop moving, the map is rotated slightly off, it points to the side about 20 degrees, at the same time edge 530 rotates map correctly. i tried to calibrate it without success.
is this expected behavior?

Same problem with mine, but it rotates way more, makes navigation on the trails really hard sometimes. It may also toggle the map back and forth
This is bad, really bad as it makes the device unreliable…
Garmin please just allow to turn off this auto align "feature" it's clear that it's designed to show the compass in correct orientation no matter how you hold it, but normally, you're not holding it, it…
I have the same problem with my stem-mounted Edge. But when I take the device off and raise it by 30 cm, the compass points correctly.
It seems that there is a magnetic interference.
it has, but it doesnt make any difference. also, it performs very quick, compared to a phone a or edge 530, just tilt it slightly to the side and it s done. maybe it actually doesn't calibrate anything?
Nowhere does it say that the problems occour while in motion.
The differnce is that when you hold it in your hand, you are likely holding it up as in tilted up, but when it's mounted it's common to be tilted down, either because of stem angle or just by being on a descend. The Problem is that it tries to correct for the tilt down by applying a 180° offset. Which makes sense to ensure it always points in the right direction when holding but it doesn't make sense when mounted.
Calibration of the compass gives absolutely no effect on 1050, that's not the problem. Same with 1040 Solar as well. I had a long support case with 1040 with the same problem from 2023 to 2024. It was finally resolved, I went trough the compass calibration process even before that was openly accessible to users during that process as well with no effect.
Now in 2025 the old resolved problem is also back on 1040, so neither 1050, nor 1040 Solar works in my case.
Mine is failing no matter the angle, handheld or with a mount. And yes the problem occurs when stationary.
So then there are maybe two different problems regarding the compass...
How much is yours off and is it consitent?
It not consistent at all, it varies on a single trip, anything from 15-20 degrees s to completely oposite of your acual direction and anything in between.
That sounds super weird, it also seems erratic to me before I figured out what my problem was. But if you're sure that the angle at which the unit is at has no effect, I would suspect either really bad interference or an issue with the unit itself.
This problem already existed in Edge 1030 PLUS
Have it with both my 1030plus and 1050.
If I stop for a traffic light, it'll go for a spin in it's head
This drives me nuts when having to do tricky nav and walking the mountain bike on small paths, working out which one to follow by orientation. It was also reported in 840 forum and video (below) from 1040 forum and logged as (not actioned) bug report in the 26.x testing beta program so fairly endemic problem across devices
