Coming from an edge 1030, which works easily with a Mac. Just plug it in and normal Finder operations work for file transfers.
is that not the case for the 1050? Is there an alternative approach that works well with a Mac?
thanks

I had the same experience initially. OpenMTP in recent Edge1050 firmware now works fine on Mac. I have a 2019 Intel Mac. No special download links necessary.

Available both for apple silicon and intel macs.
Doesn't work on Intel. Also, a big thank you to the experts in Olathe for removing the hard-to-find download link (from Google's android archive) to the only app that transfers files on macOS.
…Doesn't work on intel macs for some reason...
Without 3rd party tools it won’t work. It’s up to Apple to provide proper support in macOS, nothing Garmin can do about that.
If OpenMTP doesn’t work for you on an Intel mac, post an issue on OpenMTP’s GitHub page at github.com/.../openmtp
I already did. https://github.com/ganeshrvel/openmtp/issues/389 Do you have any other ideas?
I see. But won’t OpenMTP work for any intel mac or just not for you?
As for alternatives, outside Android File Transfer and OpenMTP I do not really know of any easy to use open source alternatives.
Personally I use CommanderOne, but that is a paid app.
That github issue was resolved a while ago, although I don't quite know why it hasn't been closed. I was a commenter on it, and noted openmtp works now. I have used it to edit my startup.txt file.
I tried it after the fix. It still didn't work on intel macs. Google's old android app actually works better anyway. I just gave up on OpenMTP. It looked like baby's first user interface.
I see. And I see your comments there. I wonder if it fails for all Intel macs? The patch definitely fixed it for my M2 MacBook Air.

Anyone know why garmin no longer supports usb mass storage? Isn’t that how the 1030 and 1040 work? That would give native support on Macs without the security risk of downloading 3rd party software.
