Coming from an edge 1030, which works easily with a Mac. Just plug it in and normal Finder operations work for file transfers.
is that not the case for the 1050? Is there an alternative approach that works well with a Mac?
thanks

I had the same experience initially. OpenMTP in recent Edge1050 firmware now works fine on Mac. I have a 2019 Intel Mac. No special download links necessary.

Available both for apple silicon and intel macs.
Doesn't work on Intel. Also, a big thank you to the experts in Olathe for removing the hard-to-find download link (from Google's android archive) to the only app that transfers files on macOS.
…mcinner1 On a different topic, we (1040) have one too ;-)
(all the previous 1050 MapTheme topics seem to be closed)
You know what works amazingly well with the Edge 1050 and is free? The ancient Android File Transfer app that Google released for macOS 10.7.
It works fine on macOS 15.4 (but I'm still on Intel).
Moderator Note: Removed third party download link
That discussion is closed. One person posted a 3rd party solution that worked on Intel Macs. Does anyone have a solution for current generation Macs with apple silicon and current MacOS?

Thanks. From a security perspective, I'd rather not have to load 3rd party software onto my Mac. Are there any other choices? Is Garmin considering adding back MTP functionality so that the 1050 can work natively on Macs?

macOS doesn't support MTP because Apple only supports iOS devices natively. I went as far as trying to use a Windows 11 (23H2) VMWare Fusion instance on macOS so I could access the Edge 1050's file system, but I couldn't get that to work either. The only app free app that worked for me was Google's ancient and unmaintained Android File Transfer app. OpenMTP didn't work for me either. MacDroid did work with the Edge 1050, but it's read-only unless you pay for it.
So can someone from Garmin reply as to the recommended way to use the 1050 on a Mac?
The official response from Garmin is to delete the verified link to the only app from Google that can read the Edge 1050's file system on macOS.
