Garmin Edge 1050 does not appear on Finder menu on Mac

Hello,
when I connect the Garmin Edge to my Mac computers (iMac and Macbook Air), the Garmin does not appear in the Finder but is recognized by the computer's Garmin Express (because I was able to do all the updates from from Garmin Express on my Mac computer).
So I can't access the Garmin hard drive to enter all my recorded routes.
However, I updated the firmware: Software version 9.09.
What can I do to make my Garmin Edge 1050 appear in my finder on Mac?
It’s a shame for a counter of this price.
Thank you for your prompt response,

  • In my case my 1050 is not recognized under Imac Under Catalina with Garmin Connect 7.18.00 latest version possible under Catalina.
My 1050 is connected in USB 2 and no detection. It takes the electric charge ... but nothing more.
If you have a solution ??
    Thank you

  • Did you try with a different USB cable? There are many USB cables that are charging only and don’t  support transferring data.

  • I use the official Garmin USB cable with a USBC / USB adapter
I tried with another cable without success.
My Imac 27 is from late 2013
I would like to know if others can see the 1050 on old Mac models under Catalina like me!!

  • And just to be sure and rule things out, the USB-C to USB-A adapter also supports data transfer and not only charging?

If you also use Garmin Basecamp, make sure that Basecamp is fully exited as only one application can initiate a connection with an MTP device like the Edge 1050.

It could also very well be that Garmin Express 7.18 and/or Catalina don't support the Edge 1050 but I wasn't able to find anything specific on that.

  • I just found a much thicker USB and USBC cable and there miracle it works it is detected by my Imac but not yet under Basecamp. Garmin Connect also detects it .... it is already a big step
Thank you sincerely for your help.
    I will continue to look

  • As I said make sure that you only have one application running before you connect your Edge.

So when running Garmin Express, Basecamp must be fully exited. And the other way around as well: if you run Basecamp, Garmin Express must be fully exited and not running in the background. The default of Express is to run in the background so that can result in issues if you're not aware.

  • Ok, noted.
    For Basecamp it doesn't work

  • I have been able to view the files of my Edge 1050 on my Mac mini (apple silicone) using OpenMTP which is free to use. I successfully edited the start up text file to include my name, ICE contact etc. Have yet to try adding a course but that is not so crucial as I can do that using Garmin connect on my iPhone.

  • Same here, but that only started working recently with the latest 1050 firmware. It was broken before that. See: https://github.com/ganeshrvel/openmtp/issues/389
