Touchscreen freezes 1050

First ride witth the new 1050.

TouchScreen totaly freezes for complete ride. Even when powered of and on several times.

No reaction or whatever  with gloves off.

Taken of the mount in home everything seems te be allright temperature outside was 4 degrees above freezing point

Didnt have this with the 1040 solar, 1030 and the older models.

What tofdo now?

  • Yes, you're right!
My problem is the total blockage of the touch screen.
    Thanks a lot!

  • Thanks. I have an open ticket about this for months too without any help.

  • Garmin service is not responsive.
I've dealt with them without ever getting an answer, I went through X,Twitter at the time, which was able to solve my sensor disconnection problem with a 1030+.

  • I reviewed the video you sent in, thank you. It does appear your Edge activity is paused and both the touchscreen and buttons are unresponsive. This indicates some other freezing/crashing error and it is tough to guess what the exact cause may be.

The local support team for your region will respond to your email shortly. For the fastest support you may give them a call: https://support.garmin.com

  • I do not see any recent contact between your account and Garmin Support. I'd ask you to reach out again to see what service options are available for your region. For the time being I've added your account to our investigation so that you can be notified with updates when available.

  • Is experience same problem as well. Is the root cause found? And is there a solution?

    Thanks, Hans

  • Hello Hans, our investigation is ongoing and we believe we can address these concerns with an update.

Could you share the temperature you were riding in, what type of gloves you may use, and if you typically lock/unlock the touchscreen?

For Edge 1050 while the activity timer is running, single-pressing the power button locks and unlocks the touchscreen - this allows you to change data screens by swiping but prevents inadvertent touch inputs.

  •  At this time of year, with the first heat, the problems that I had reported and that had occurred in winter and cold periods have disappeared. Now the device is working properly. There remains regret at the failure of the device during the cold periods of the year, which I consider unacceptable for a top-of-the-range device. I really hope that a software update can solve a problem that I hope is not due to hardware problems, also because in this case there would be no solution if not the replacement by Garmin of all the devices produced... an unprecedented recall campaign....

  • By me the issue started 2 days ago. Updated frmware last Friday. It had been working for about 2 or 3 months, as long as I had the device. Reading that it happens with cold temperatures, I can say I also use it when going to the office and during the winter we had colder temperatures so that doesn't make sense. Last Saturday I started the ride with about 7 degrees (talking about Celsius) and was navigating to the starting point of a loaded course. First freeze started about 50m from my house. So then also started my Fenix 6x to record the ride. Before the starting point it had frozen another 4 times. Didn't restart the Edge for a while during the course, but after a few kilometres thought to give it another shot. And it went well for the next 4 hours. On my way back home it frooze again.
Yesterday I did a ride with a premapped course and also almost immediately a freeze. Hadn't googled around so I did a hard reset yesterday afternoon to see if that would help. When going into town I took the device with me and it frooze again after a pause. And at that moment it was 22 degrees which is quite warm.

Read somewhere else that for a bunch of people the issue started after upgrading to firmware 13.13 (it must be the number). And solution is to remove the custom maps. And I'm using OpenFietsMap. Hopefully soon Garmin releases an update.

  • The people talking about feezing unit are talking about a completely different problem. They need to stop being combined.

The problem that started this thread amd a lot of us have is that the touchscreen stops working. While this is happening the display still shows all the correct data and while riding. It never stops tracking speed or distance or cadence or HRM. All the data is correct. Amd yiu can push the buttons and they will pause the ride or open the power off menu. Everything else worls but the ability to touch the screen.

Some of yiu are having freezing problems where the entire unit just stops functioning mid ride. THIS IS NOT THE SAME ISSUE. STOP ACTING LIKE IT IS.
