Touchscreen freezes 1050

First ride witth the new 1050.

TouchScreen totaly freezes for complete ride. Even when powered of and on several times.

No reaction or whatever  with gloves off.

Taken of the mount in home everything seems te be allright temperature outside was 4 degrees above freezing point

Didnt have this with the 1040 solar, 1030 and the older models.

What tofdo now?

  • I have reported this issue since December the 3rd 2024 and so far nothing.

  • Yes, if you read the rest of this thread I have a handful of posts about my dealings with them and returning my original for testing.

  • Unsure if this is related, but my 1040 Solar locks up every five minutes, freezes for about 30 seconds, then becomes responsive. Occurs on every activity. Appeared to be solved with a device reset but after 20 activities the exact same bug has returned.

  • Is there any update on this issue? Again unit froze this evening with outside temp 6degC . Very frustrating when you spend a lot of money on a supposedly premium unit and it doesn’t function.

  • It's not just about the low temperatures.  The behavior is irregular in normal indoor temperatures as well.

  • Dear Garmin, could you please give us a response on what's going on? I have reported the issue since early December 2024. Since then, I went ahead and bought another unit so I can work out. You can check this even in my account. I literally have 750€ worth of equipment catching dust. We need a solution ASAP. Not to mention that people will be buying the unit having a major flaw rendering it useless. Please be responsible and give some attention to the issue.

  • for the fastest possible solution, please contact Garmin Support for your region: https://support.garmin.com/

Read through this thread and you will find varying reports of touchscreen performance concerns both with and without gloves, in both colder and higher temps, with 3rd party screen protectors and without.

Some users are reporting a device freeze/unresponsive issue that may not be related to the physical touchscreen and seems resolved or temporarily resolved with a reboot.

We have gathered and are evaluating a few Edge 1050s that will assist us with this investigation, I will update here when I have any definitive details. Asserting a "major flaw" is a stretch, but if you are able to get in touch with the Garmin support office for your region we will work with you to find a resolution.

  • I have contacted them already and they didn't offer any solution rather than to get the device in the service for a "check" I have asked them if a replacement with an older device is possible, and they said no.

Hopefully this gets resolved soon, otherwise you will need to instruct the local dealers how to handle this issue.

And sorry for the stretch but having a Premium device with an issue going on for about 4 months now that works sometimes and under certain conditions looks like a big flaw.

Furthermore, rebooting the device in the cold didn't solve the issue for me.

  • I appreciate your feedback and apologize we do not offer the same service options for all regions. If your Edge 1050 (or any other user's) was experiencing errors from initial use I would recommend a return, and that would be determined by the retailer.

Generally speaking, if we can confirm some form of hardware issue we have many service options available. Regarding Edge 1050 touchscreen performance, we do not have a clear report of a specific issue and are investigating further.

  • Not sure if this applies to any of y'all but I figured out the freezing problem on my 1040 Solar was due to having the Dexcom data field installed. It pings the server every 5 minutes to get a new glucose reading and would apparently lock up the device while doing so. Removing the data field from my activity pages fixed the problem for me.
