Touchscreen freezes 1050

First ride witth the new 1050.

TouchScreen totaly freezes for complete ride. Even when powered of and on several times.

No reaction or whatever  with gloves off.

Taken of the mount in home everything seems te be allright temperature outside was 4 degrees above freezing point

Didnt have this with the 1040 solar, 1030 and the older models.

What tofdo now?

  • Are you thinking the same as me?using a silicone case can be to tight on the mount...something with to much pressure from the back???

  • How do you mean tight to the mount? Mine is just a silicone bumper that does not do anything in terms of pressure as far as I can see.

  • I am thinking to understand the issue.

    I have the same problem.

But one day i i remind that i had it on a mount that is realy thight with the silicone bumper on the 1050.

    That mine mtb bike.

It was harder to fix it on the mount.

It had the same behavior like everybody discribe here, but of the mount it acts normal.

  • Are you using the Garmin silicone cover? I am and mine only goes around the edge of the device and makes zero contact with the mount at all.

  • No non uso cover

  • silicon or not is not relevant. Even with the 1040, there were some users who had protection and there were never any such problems.

Please don't start pursuing completely absurd ideas.

  • This touch screen uses the capacitive technology. That means that the top layer of the screen is charged with electricity and when your finger touches the screen it detects the electrical resistance of your finger using a sensor underneath to indicate where you are touching the screen. This is like the modern-day smartphones are using and in this area of application its good for example in rainy conditions, so you don't get "miskicks" like in the resistive technology.

The older versions on the other hand used the resistive display where in this case there is a layer in the screen that detects touches when it is pressed rather than touched.

The silicone case or the mount cannot interfere with the screen in that particular case.

  • Had this problem today on my ride. Temp was between 4°C - 6°C and raining. I was in an Audax so having to go through a reboot every 10-15 miles was really annoying. Never had this issue on my 830

  • I had the same issue around 3°C and no rain

  • Here’s an example from a week ago I. Cold conditions in Netherlands. Only solution is to pause workout switch Garmin screen off and then on. Then it works again for a while. This is terrible. Please fix
