Paused Ride Loss of Data

I'm using my 1050 (FW 9.11) to record two rides with my family that involved an intermediate stop for coffee one time and a quick meal the other.  With the 1040 I would stop the ride and power it off. At the conclusion of the break, I would power it back on and start the ride and it would pick off where I left off.  At the conclusion all the data would be there.

I did the same thing with my 1050 but it loses the first half of the ride data with the exception of elapsed time and total distance.  The map shows me starting at the point I resumed the ride, and all ride data - power, HR, cadence, etc., prior to the restart of the 1050 is lost.  The upload to Strava was only the second half of the rides.

Has anyone else experienced this or is this an error on my part?

  • There is no difference, both a single press or pressing and holding before touching the "sleep" menu option are the same function.

When the optional "Screen Capture" feature is enabled under Display settings, single pressing the power button saves a screen capture image to the Edge's internal memory. To access sleep while screen capture is enabled, hold the power button and select the Sleep menu option

  • just a side note here, yet there is a very significant difference in the training load calculation when saving an activity in one or saving and starting a new activity (speaking of a multi-day activity)

during any activity, the training load will be increased less and less with time, so basically an activity split into several activities always shows significantly more training load

this could be very relevant during a multi-day activity, because training readiness is partly based in training load, not to mention the long term chronic load analysis

nevertheless, it seems clear to me that garmin does not design its devices for measuring / analysing long activities, so a day long bike trip analysis won't be relevant anyway - you can do it in one sit, or break it down to daily segments, training load (and its siblings) will be very off anyway

  • I never stop my rides.  I've had this happen multiple times.  If the Edge 1050 goes into sleep mode, it will lose data.

  • I had this happen to me today.
