Paused Ride Loss of Data

I'm using my 1050 (FW 9.11) to record two rides with my family that involved an intermediate stop for coffee one time and a quick meal the other.  With the 1040 I would stop the ride and power it off. At the conclusion of the break, I would power it back on and start the ride and it would pick off where I left off.  At the conclusion all the data would be there.

I did the same thing with my 1050 but it loses the first half of the ride data with the exception of elapsed time and total distance.  The map shows me starting at the point I resumed the ride, and all ride data - power, HR, cadence, etc., prior to the restart of the 1050 is lost.  The upload to Strava was only the second half of the rides.

Has anyone else experienced this or is this an error on my part?

  • I did that multiple times on Edge1050 and haven't experienced such issue.Though I noticed that Edge 1050 stops counting elapsed time after 1 minute after put into sleep modeFace palm

  • Several times, after pause and sleep a corrupt Fit file.

  • I'm using Beta Software: 10.15

Rode 28 miles, paused ride and turned unit off.

Typically I don't do this, but wanted to familiarize myself with it for longer rides.

After break turned Edge on, restarted ride. Finished ride.

Summary shows 52.18 miles 3:13:46 and maps correct on the Edge.

After it uploaded stats are correct, but no map is drawn of the 1st 28 miles on Gamin Connect.

So Strava only show stats and map of the 2nd half f the ride after the break.

Have you tried to to to recreate the behavior?

  • I tried just putting the unit to sleep instead of powering off and all of my data was there at the end, to include the entire route.  I only paused for a few minutes; I need to try a longer pause.

  • The first picture is a screenshot from the Edge 1050 The second is from Garmin connect. Interestingly Garmin connect shows a dot every 5 miles which in this case is a lap.

  • Tested this issue today with the last beta firmware 12.14 on a short ride:

Started an activity. After 5 km I stopped, pressed pause and turned off the device. 1 hour later I turned on the device, found me at the activity, where I have stopped. Pressed start for continue the activity.
At the end I pressed stop and saved the activity -> bang! The hole distance and time, but only the track from starting after the pause.

So, this issue is not solved!

    It‘s a shame!

  • Had this issue yesterday as well, though it was a first.

Always clock my work rides with an 8.5 hour "pause"  in between and yesterday I went shopping for a watch strap and the track was lost when I restarted the 1050. On the 1050 itself it would show the complete ride and all the data seems to also be there.  The 105 crashed when I saved the ride :/

  • Hello all, thank you for your participation here. We are investigating this report and require some more activity data and log information.

If you are experiencing a loss of data after pausing/resuming activity recording, or are only seeing part of your GPS data, please reply here with your consent for me to reach out externally via your account email address.

  • Seems I'm not able to post a picture in a reply.

But you guys have my permission to contact me externally.

  • Are you guys also investigating the crashing issues? Seems I can't get rid of my annoying crash issues despite doing what Garmin support told me to do (delete some specific files when plugging it to my PC). This was the answer I got from the spanish support team. So far I have seen many people having the same issue, and they just tell me to not load any tracks from external apps. If I get a top end navigation device like the Edge 1050, since when I am not supposed to load tracks and courses from apps like Strava or Komoot??
