Paused Ride Loss of Data

I'm using my 1050 (FW 9.11) to record two rides with my family that involved an intermediate stop for coffee one time and a quick meal the other.  With the 1040 I would stop the ride and power it off. At the conclusion of the break, I would power it back on and start the ride and it would pick off where I left off.  At the conclusion all the data would be there.

I did the same thing with my 1050 but it loses the first half of the ride data with the exception of elapsed time and total distance.  The map shows me starting at the point I resumed the ride, and all ride data - power, HR, cadence, etc., prior to the restart of the 1050 is lost.  The upload to Strava was only the second half of the rides.

Has anyone else experienced this or is this an error on my part?

  • The FIT file is corrupted.  Manually uploaded it to Connect, and the track is missing, and the file will not upload to Strava.5287.2025-05-17-08-38-08.fit

  • Unfortunately, that file extremely small at only 7 kb and no with no timestamps.

  • Hence my point...   the file was corrupted when i turned the unit off and on again.   (there are no other fit file with today's date 5/17/2025 on my device)

  • Sorry, thought you wanted us to try to repair it, since you attached it to your post. There could be a last-ditch effort to use a recovery tool, if that's even possible on the Edge 1050.

  • Nope, just reporting the fact that it happened.
I think i turned the device off, at the end of my ride and it was still stuck on the end of the ride, trying to ask if i wanted to accept the water/nutritional information.   Something i'm going to turn off in the future.

  • I just purchased the 1050, and every time I stop for more than a minute, the Garmin automatically ends the ride and asks if I want to save or delete the ride. I don't do anything, I don't stop, or pause. Then I have to start a new ride every time I stop. This is 100% unacceptable for a device DESIGNED to record your rides. It is failing at the one basic thing it's designed to do. And for $700!!!!!! What a scam. If I can't get this resolved, Im returning it and telling everyone I know to AVOID this version. All of the energy went into making a bright screen, none on making it actually work.

  • Just got the 1050. Every time I stop for more than a minute, it automatically ends the ride and asks me if I want to save or delete the ride. Then I have to start a new ride after every stop. This is insane. This VERY expensive item is failing at the most basic thing it was designed to do. I am not touching it, I'm not pausing or stoping or turning it off. This is a major fail.

  •  It sounds like you are describing some of the Edge 1050's default settings for Auto Pause.

If the device pauses automatically, you can resume riding and the Edge will automatically resume the activity when it sees speed increase, or, you can press the physical start button at the lower right to resume the timer, there is no need to begin a new activity. For the fastest support please contact the Garmin office for your region: https://support.garmin.com/

  • hmm, on the 1040 the Auto Pause just simply pauses the ride, and shows a pause "||" sign on the screen. And that is all.

Even this pause sign will be hidden when I wanted to interact with the map, for example.

There is nothing like dialogs "Delete, Save" whatever things. That happens only when I press the stop button.

If this was changed in the 1050, then it is clearly a show stopper.

  • My point exactly,
The problem is that i was used to just finishing my ride.   I hit End Ride and the Food and Drink approval screen came up and i didn't expect that so i shut off the device.   Which the erased my ride.

I think the was poorly designed UI.     The app should have saved the FIT file (or what ever is the native format).
Then updated the food and drink info upon my powering it on a afterward.

I've turned off the food and drink feature of the 1050, and will not be using that feature in the future.
