Paused Ride Loss of Data

I'm using my 1050 (FW 9.11) to record two rides with my family that involved an intermediate stop for coffee one time and a quick meal the other.  With the 1040 I would stop the ride and power it off. At the conclusion of the break, I would power it back on and start the ride and it would pick off where I left off.  At the conclusion all the data would be there.

I did the same thing with my 1050 but it loses the first half of the ride data with the exception of elapsed time and total distance.  The map shows me starting at the point I resumed the ride, and all ride data - power, HR, cadence, etc., prior to the restart of the 1050 is lost.  The upload to Strava was only the second half of the rides.

Has anyone else experienced this or is this an error on my part?

  • Yes! I have exactly the same issue.

The other issue which is probably the same for all of you here is that Garmin doesn't bother to answer definitively.

  • Do you always make a full shutdown? Because when I wanna pause a ride and keep riding later on, I just press once the shutdown button, I mean, leaving the device not fully shut down, just on sleep mode. So far no issues doing it like this. Not sure if someone else has the same experience than me

  • I've been trying it in a couple of different ways lately and just pressing the power button once to initiate sleep seems to not cause problems at all.

Triggering sleep by doing a long press on the power button and selecting sleep seems to cause it, but infrequently.

Doing a full power down by doing a long press on the power button and selecting shutdown seemed to cause the problem the most often. I haven't done this in a while though, but not explicitly noticed it lately :/

The 1030plus would have issues reconnecting to sensors and peripherals after sleep, so I got conditioned to just power down the device. Seems the 1050 fixed that and messes up with the power down Slight smile

  • Last week I rode 435km... But due to this issue only 30km of data shows in the FIT file! I could see the totals but almost all of the actual GPS, HR, elevation, cadence data was lost until the last 30km. So annoying! And not something that ever happened with my Bolt v1 Disappointed.

At one point during the ride I could see the track from a previous ride. Something really weird goes on when pausing then resuming.

  • I’m having the same issue, please contact me directly.  Thanks

  • I just experienced this today after pausing the ride at coffee stop and turning off the 1050.  I use an e-bike and radar so the only way to re-establish a connection to these is to power off and on unless I leave the 1050 on the bike and risk theft.  So this issue isn’t resolved and never happened with the 1040 solar.  I’m using firmware 13.13.

  • Same issue, road for 30 miles, turned the device off, turned it on then stopped the ride on the 1050.   The activity did not sync with my phone (nor is it on the Connect web site).   Note: the ride is still showing up on my 1050.

  • Have you tried swiping down from top of screen, clicking on sensors. Selecting sensor that hasn’t reconnected, turning status off then on. This usually works for me to get things reconnected.

  • I've tried all of those... even reconnected to the wifi.   Resync'd the device and ensured that auto upload is check.  Workout (ride) still shows up on device (1050) and not on my phone or webpage (connect).    I've resorted to creating the ride manually, and entered all the data. (minus the heart rate, route, etc..)

I manual uploaded the file, and as expected..   the FIT file is corrupted.    It will upload to Connect, but the track is gone, and the same file will not upload to Stava.4380.2025-05-17-08-38-08.fit
