Who already has the E1050 and what are the impressions?

Users of the new E1050, share your impressions - is the new Edge a big qualitative leap compared to the previous E1040 model and is it worth investing a few hundred on new hardware after changes to the firmware (23/09Beta) and adding a few functionalities?

  • No screen covering for me.

  • In my case, the angle doesn't matter. In the shade, the screen looks perfect, but when I enter a sunny area, the screen becomes difficult to see, reflecting the sun's rays. Maybe Garmin should think about selling foil that is proven in sunlight. Probably, in some time, independent sellers will sell some films, but will they be of adequate quality?

  • I wear Oakley Sutro Lite's.  One pair has Prizm road lenses and the other pair are Prizm sapphire lenses.

  • It looks like you have a protective foil over the screen, but I assume you actually don't.

  • Si fa con il telefono lo spostamento dei profili non con G Express che io sappia.

  • In the real world, as a user of both the 1040 (non-solar) and a 1050, I can say the 1050 has a dramatically-more-readable screen in super-bright conditions. Truly amazing. The 1050 is a game-changer for my 68-year-old eyes!

One issue though. If you accidentally have the screen brightness turned off (no backlight), good luck trying to bring it back, since you can just barely see the things you need to change the settings for. Garmin needs to have a sort of emergency default mode that over-rides a backlight-off setting.

  • The power-on button is very very picky. It seems like there's a certain amount of time it has to be pressed; too short, nothing happens, too long, nothing happens. So sometimes if I'm in a rush, I have trouble getting it going. Not saying this is the situation with yours, but...

(After reading your post the first time, I began thinking mine was bad too!!! Because I couldn't get it to turn on. Since, I seem to have developed the right touch and it works fine).

  • There is not Backlight Timeout OFF option, only 15 secs, 30 secs, 1 min and 2 mins. When set to any of those timeout options, touching the screen brings back the backlight. Make sure you are in the latest firmware, though.

  • Hey Enricoclaudio! Thanks for the excellent write up and pictures!

I have a question about your Windfield setup, I haven't used this CIQ before but it looks wonderful.

In your first picture it shows wind 4mph and West, with the arrow pointing to the west... But wind is usually reported as the direction it is coming from, so that should be 4mph East

The 96degrees is where it is coming from, what is the 44% and 0%?

    Thanks!
