Why "release" it and not be available for 5-8 weeks? At this point it feels like a kickstarter. Oh well, I'll place my order as usual...

Check your local bike shops. My local shop had 2 in stock....I of course purchase one!
Nice! Do you use Varia and if so how loud is the Vario alert? I get the impression that the bell and voice prompts are loud but the tones are much lower in volume. I like the ability to have a super loud…
I just found one local and headed to pick it up. Will be cancelling my order with Garmin.

I ordered mine this morning and already got shipping confirmation with Fedex tracking number.
Garmin have a track history of prioritising fulfilment of their big resellers' orders first with new releases, so it's usually faster to order from a third party than direct from Garmin, which can often delay your order by several weeks.
You can customize the volume of the alert. At full volume, the vario alert is much louder than previous edge devices. This is, for me, the top benefit of the 1050.
Good to know. And your reference point is a 1030 or a 1040? The smaller devices like the 830/840 are awful in terms of alert audio level. The reason why I ask for a direct comparison is because what maybe loud to one person is weak to another. Thanks.
I emailed Velo Pasadena (you can guess where this shop is) that I wanted the Edge 1050, and asked when it would be available at their shop. I got an email back that they would have some "soon". By the time I had replied to that email, they sent me another one that said the Edge 1050 order had arrived. This was on Friday. I got there about Noon on Saturday, and I got the last one they had in stock. (I don't know how many they received.)
You may be better off contacting bike shops in your area, and asking them to notify you when they have one. Garmin is probably sending all they have to retailers for the first few weeks.
Sigma Sports has changed the shipping information and now states that the E1050 will be shipped after July 16. What's it like with your local retailers? Where I bought eazymut and Trigar in advance, there is absolutely no information about when the shipment will take place.
My 1050 ordered from Sigma was delivered on Saturday, so I guess they've sold all their initial allocation and are now waiting for their next. Tredz are showing expected stock on 3rd July, but that may already be pre-ordered out.
Edit: Tredz have the non-bundle version in stock and available for despatch in 1-2 days.
