Dead 2 year old 1040, how much did I lose?

Just over 2 years in, my Edge 1040 went into an endless reboot loop yesterday during or just after charging. Cry

Garmin is sending a refurb out to me, but I was unable to connect to it at all to try to save anything, so how much did I lose?

It has not been syncing automatically for a little while and the last time I synced it was 2 days ago, so I am sure I lost those 2 rides, but how much will be restored when I connect the "new" 1040 to my account and sync and how much will I have to re-enter?

Is there any way to back it up so I can be more prepared next time?

  • Also - anyone know how quickly Garmin is shipping out RMA replacements? I paid for a replacement up front with 1-2 day shipping and order was placed yesterday.

As for what information you can transfer from your old Edge to your new Edge, please see this FAQ covering what information can be transferred through the Connect App. We also have a manual backup and restore option, with steps listed here

  • I was unable to connect to the Edge once it started rebooting, so too late for any backups etc.

What I was asking is what would settings etc. would have been backed up by my previous syncs, or am I starting from scratch now? i.e. "how much did I lose?"

  • Also - I posted here as a warning to other users that this is something that can happen. I had discussed with support when I got the RMA.
