My Edge 1040 will not start. It keeps looping at start up but goes no further

When powering up, the Garmin logo appears and then it disappears, before looping and trying to boot up over and over again.

I have tried to reset with 30 second power button but no success, except I sometimes see a black line across the screen before disappearing.

I have tried to reset pressing start and lap + power, before releasing power.

I have managed to access the USB mode to connect to Garmin Express, while it allows me to see my files on my PC, it doesn't help me diagnose or solve the problem.

Help please.

If you can get it to connect to the PC, try removing any files that might be in the Garmin\NewFiles folder or the Garmin\RemoteSW folder.

Hi, I'm an IQ apps developer and I have many users in your situation. At the moment I've only found a definitive solution by resetting the device to factory settings, after that everything works as it should...
I think these latest firmware updates are causing too many problems.

Unfortunately I cannot get the unit to connect to either a PC or a Mac. In both instances the external drive connection notification sound can be heard, but I cannot see the Edge drive being mounted in either environments

It can take up to one minute to force it to mount. With the unit powered off. Hold the lap button down and connect the cable from the PC. Keep holding the button down until it switches from loader to MTP mode on the display.

Hello All. thanks for the feedback to my query. I sent the device to the Garmin distributor in my home country as they advised it needed to be replaced. I was unable to reset to factory settings.

The unit goes into MTP mode but the computers do not detect the unit.

Any other way to do a factory reset?

With the unit powered off hold both the lap and timer start/stop buttons. Then press the power on button. Keep holding the lap and timer start/stop button for around 5 seconds. Then let go of the buttons. This should force the unit to perform a reset.

Tried the factory reset workflow (lap and start/stop buttons and then power on) but it still goes into a boot loop.
