Firmware 24.18 - First impressions and comments

Today was the first day of driving with the new firmware and after two rides to/from work my conclusions are:

Positives:
- Road Hazards reports
- The addition of the type of road surface we rode on in the activity summary in Garmin Connect

Cons:

- No configuration of the radius/circle in which threat alerts are displayed. Thus, driving straight ahead we get an alert that is about 200m away on a side street. The ability to configure “circles” would be very convenient - something like ClimbPro - different levels of their inclusion.
- the size of the road alerts has been reduced quite a bit
- the “road hazards” reporting menu has equally miniature captions.
(the fact that after two/three uses you can learn by heart what an icon means, but still .... )
I hope Garmin, however, realizes that not all Edge users are 20-year-olds with perfect eyesight, but also slightly older users. Optimal would be the ability to configure in the settings:
- “small font/large font”.
- size of traffic alerts: small - large

I was out riding today after the new update. Only problem I had wasn't a Garmin issue but how the road/trail was coded. I was on gravel bike path the entire time but only a 20-ft section had to pop up saying it wasn't a road. But again I'm sure that has more to do with how the map service coded the trail

I rode 30k today, the map did not sync to garmin connect... i can see it in the device, but have tried multiple times to resync without any success..

My eyesight is terrible. I noticed the new icons but really didn’t have much clue. I can’t really blame Garmin though, only age

If only :). At best I see the red blob come up. Beyond that it’s a bit of a blur. Nice to know the feature is there though and for me at least I know something is coming up. I’ll assume some form of bad road and in most cases that’s the best action. I think this is a good feature Garmin added.

I rode 60 miles on it today with 5000ft of climbing. . I wasn’t using a course and the climb pro never worked once over a few climbs that it should have picked up. The map screen also had trouble staying current where I was. Anyone else having issues with the free climbing?

it might depend on the map you use(and only one).
I had the same problem with the topo map; changing it to the regular cycling map solved everything.

You can view and enable/disable maps in
Activity profiles -> "your profile" -> Navigation -> maps -> map information

What do you mean by that?

I´m perfectly happy with 21.18 and trying to decide if I should upgrade or not, a map issue is the least that I want :-) I´m mostly using Garmins Topo Pro maps...
