*ucking Garmin update problem again

Garmin destroyed my previous perfectly functioning 530 during a software update I didn’t give permission for ( whilst in the middle of a 4 day remote gravel trip). Funnily enough it was 2 months out of warranty.

Should’ve bought a Wahoo, but bought a 1040. Latest software update , and Garmin is just stuck. Won’t turn off, can’t do a hard reset, same as before, with my 530.
Why aircraft aren’t falling out of the sky, or crashing into mountains, or ships running aground that use Garmin nav devices is beyond me. Any suggestions from the floor, before I speak to someone that can barely speak English to try and resolve this issue.

Can you tell I’m having a bad day?

  • >  Why aircraft aren’t falling out of the sky

Because Garmin units do not control the engines or the lift generated over the wings.

But seriously, Garmin units have to go through an incredible government certification process for their aviation products.   Software changes come MUCH slower to those units than our cycling computers.   And the aviation units have been around for DECADES.   I flew with a Garmin aviation GPS back in 2001.

I hope you tried to call customer service because they have an excellent service team overall.

  • I'm convinced that Garmin uses the cycling products group to break in intern engineers. Training wheels for the new kids.

  • And I am convinced that there have been no developers for the last few years with the managers (probably marketing) using a pre-alpha version of ChatGPT to do the coding and of course if AI does the coding there is no need for testing.

ps and it’s been trained using these forums!
