Garmin Edge 1040 for Multiple Bikes

I have been using the Garmin Edge 1040 on my road bike for about nine months. I now have a second road bike and I would like to keep track of that activity and miles on that bike separately from the activity and miles of my first bike. I have both bikes on the Gear list of Garmin Connect, but I haven't figured out how to select which bike I am using on the Edge 1040. Can anyone help?

There is no way to select/identify a bike on a Garmin Edge. This has been asked for forever. A workaround is to create a separate activity profile that you use when riding the second bike and identify it some other type of activity. There are many to chose from. You can then associate a bike with that activity type in GC.

No, unfortunately, that‘s not possible. There‘s only one activity type for riding bikes: „cycling“.
You have to go to „gear“ in GC after each ride and set the used bicycle.
(All you can do is set the most used bike as standard bike)
Unbelivable that Garmin ignores our wishes for years.

On the 1040 itself History > Totals shows number of rides, total time, total distance & calories for each Activity Profile but I don’t know if this is reflected anywhere in connect

Yes. I didn't make it clear that that I manually associate the activity type with the activity. There are 15 cycling activity types to choose among. e.g. I don't do BMX so associate that type with one of my MTBs. I don't do track cycling, so associate that activity type with my of my road bikes. etc. Then, I can go to REPORTS, PROGRESS SUMMARY, and select that activity type to get totals for that bike including number of rides, total distance, total time, avg speed, etc....

There is a very simple solution to your question: Do assign an activity profile for each bike. To make this even more convenient, you your garmin asks you if you want to copy your existing profile.
