Garmin Edge 1040 Series Profiles linked to Bikes

Hello to you guys,

I have a Garmin Edge 1040  with the latest firmware.

I've created 3 cycling profiles, Indoor Bike, Road Bike and MTB Bike.

I also have 3 bikes, however I can't link the bikes to the profiles and this is very frustrating as I have to manually change the gear for each run/activity that I do, as only one bike can be the default bike! In addition to this, I can't change the bike on the Garmin connect Android App, and can only do it on my PC Garmin connect browser.

I think it would be great to have different bikes for each activity, having the generic "Cycling" isn't sufficient and Garmin should consider at least adding "Indoor cycling", "ROAD Cycling" and "MTB cycling" to the list (see image) where we could link them to each activity. To further improve on this (and thinking of people that have multiple road and mtb bikes) Garmin could have a button to add different road bikes or MTB bikes: "MTB cycling #" and "ROAD cycling #".

This should also resonate into the Garmin Edge 1040 Firmware where we could select each of our bikes for each activity.

It's a bit counterproductive to have a indoor cycling session and have it appear as my ROAD bike, or having a MTB ride just to have it appear as a ROAD bike ride.

I'm assuming this is a software issue and not my fault, but it is indeed my fault and if someone know how to circumvent this, please help.

  • Oh yes. Unamused
The targeted assignment of bikes to a suitable cycling profile has been requested by GARMIN users for 8 years.

  • It's a shame really. I think this should be easily implemented, and if it isn't, at least at the end of the ride a pop-up should appear to select the bike you rode with.

  • I agree this is needed. If you use Strava as well, there are a few api apps that let you set rules and change the equipment. That's my workaround so I can watch miles on equipment and such.

  • What are those API that you mention?
I have to do it by hand on my Strava rides. Change the gear to the proper one. But this is fine I guess, Garmin and Strava are two different things, however in Garmin this should be implemented quite easily I guess.
They could create a Tab where all profiles are listed and inside each profile we could select the bikes for each profile. If this in unachievable through the Edge firmware, you could create this "tool" on the Garmin connect App and browser and when it pairs to the Edge device it uploads the selected bike to the profile on the Edge device. I think this could be a possible workaround.

Tried to contact Garmin through email (couldn't find one) and opted to use social media but with no success/response from them.

This is a bit of disappointing to say the least.
