battery drain 19.19

Anyone noticed higher battery drain since updating to 19.19?

I did a 4 hour ride last week on firmware 18.25 started with 100% and finished at 87%. This is normal and excellent and no need to charge the 1040 after every ride, I normally let it drain to below 50% before re-charging

Did a ride yesterday started at 85% and I was alarmed to see it was at 27% after 4½ hours.

I'm hoping this was just a one off.

  • 45 minutes indoor from 100 to 82 drain!

  • I did and they just offered to replace the unit as it was still under warranty, see post above. I tried to explain that it was a firmware issue and not hardware and they should refer it to the engineers.

But I agree can everyone who has posted in this thread contact Garmin support

  • Have the same problem, start today with 60% and after 1 hour Garmin shut down for low battery....

    So stupid

    • With apologies because I know it won't be any consolation for the majority of posters on this thread, but all that my ride this morning confirmed is that this is not an issue that's affecting every device. My 1040 Solar lost 6% charge during a two and a half hour outing.
  • yeah, that's strange, I have the same experience, 2½ hours at ~ zero Celcius, Backlight on at 30% ,power, heartrate & gear sensors on as well and mostly on the map page ... Lost ~ 9 % battery

  • The same for mine, after upgrade to 19.19. Garmin FIX IT ASAP!!!

  • Yes - me too. I'm riding mainly on a turbo at the moment (I do use the 1040 for some warm ups indoors, and again very little or no extra drain) but I've done three road rides, two of just under an hour and one of four-and-a-half hours, with very little, if any, extra drain. Total battery use for all those rides, including indoor and a daily HRV check, has been around 25%.

Obviously, there is a problem of some sort, and it doesn't seem to be directly related to screen brightness as such (though the post about changes in screen brightness which are visible at night is interesting, and given that battery drain issues always seem to boil down to screen brightness I still wouldn't be surprised if it's linked in some way).

I suppose a logical next step, though, would be to try to sort out common facts - sensors, IQ apps, etc.

I agree with others that it is appalling that a device that's been around for well over a year is still in this state. Sadly, I disagree with those who've said that this is unusual for Garmin - I've been using them since the 705, which was dreadful. I think it was V.3.20 (and also seem to remember that the final version was 3.40, so we're talking quite near the end - years into it's development) that completely bricked many (most?) devices. Be grateful for small mercies...

  • I came back from a 3h45 outing and I lost 17% of battery, however the average temperature was 3.5 degrees

  • 3h Ride outdoor lost 12% of battery, average temperature was 6 degrees.

Absolutely no problem with 19.19, no increased battery consumption.

  • certainly,
but when it was released the 1040 consumed 2% battery per hour, now it seems it consumes double that
