battery drain 19.19

Anyone noticed higher battery drain since updating to 19.19?

I did a 4 hour ride last week on firmware 18.25 started with 100% and finished at 87%. This is normal and excellent and no need to charge the 1040 after every ride, I normally let it drain to below 50% before re-charging

Did a ride yesterday started at 85% and I was alarmed to see it was at 27% after 4½ hours.

I'm hoping this was just a one off.

  • How did you contact Garmin?

  • Just contacted Garmin support.

Lee:So this device will need replacing, it is covered under the warranty, we will need you to return the faulty one back to us and as soon as we receive it we will send you a new one out, this is done via UPS and we will provide the label, please keep all bands and chargers and box, just send the watch face back in a padded envelope.

Wayne:There are loads of people with the same problem it is not just my device the problem started after updating the firmware to 19.19

Lee:Are you based in the UK?

    Wayne:yes

Lee:That is all booked in for you, you will get some emails in about 10 minuets from me, one including a secure shopping link to fill out your details, including a link to UPS to organize a free shipping label, and one with a list of instructions on how the process works.

    Is it worth replacing it?

  • I downgraded to 18.25 and it's working normally again. Now if your 1040 has lots of scratches and already degraded battery - I would take up the offer. Otherwise wait or downgrade in the meantime (downgrade means all profiles lost, rest of userdata gets restored).

  • Same happened for me, down from 97% to 45% after a ~3.5 - 4hr ride today. Also, Varia will not stay consistently paired, and Di2 pairing flits in and out, too. None of this happened before I updated to 19.19 today.

  • Could you please let us know how to downgrade from 19.19 to 18.25?   Any pointers / steps highly appreciated.

    Thanks!

  • Can we please have some feedback from Garmin about this? It's a lot of people with the same battery drain issue. Is there going to be a patch? when? should we roll back to 18.25 and how?

    Thank you

  • Tied it today.... 45,5 km, 3 hours in the mountains, battery from 98% to 37%. Tomorrow i have long one will use my forerunner aswell. Like this the 1040 is useless for me as randonneuring. Hope everything will get fixed soon.

  • Will you run both units concurrently? I'm riding tomorrow and Sunday, which will be my first rides since the update. Depending on how the 1040 battery performs on the short Saturday ride, I might ride with both the Forerunner and Edge on Sunday. If the battery drain occurs I'll then be in a position to run the 1040 to flat (without losing ride data). That would at least confirm whether the issue is battery drain, as opposed to the way the unit is reading or reporting the battery data.. .

  • Update:- toggled between Auto backlight and manual then randomly my Di2 deleted it's self from the Edge config could not get it to pair again until I carried out a reset. ( Press and hold on button for 10sec ) Since then I have done 3 more 4 hour rides and battery consumption appears to be ok now. For those suffering the battery issue it may be worth trying a reset no configuration or data is lost. I'm not saying it's a fix but may help.

  • I suggest everyone with the issue contact garmin support directly…..the more people that do, the more likely they will prioritize fixing the issue.
