battery drain 19.19

Anyone noticed higher battery drain since updating to 19.19?

I did a 4 hour ride last week on firmware 18.25 started with 100% and finished at 87%. This is normal and excellent and no need to charge the 1040 after every ride, I normally let it drain to below 50% before re-charging

Did a ride yesterday started at 85% and I was alarmed to see it was at 27% after 4½ hours.

I'm hoping this was just a one off.

  • It has nothing to do with screen brightness. I have no light at all on my screen and it went from 83% to 31% on a 11 km tour.

  • Mine is in Auto mode and was there forever, I think

It is working as it is constantly changing level when I expose it to the sun and shade

  • I do not see any significant battery drain with the 19.19.

I did a 2:15 hour ride today, battery down from 63% to 54%.

  • Did you use LiveTrack during this ride? I was using

  • I was certainly using Livetrack (two separate rides, one of four-and-a-half hours, one of 45 minutes) with a possible SLIGHT increase in battery use, but nothing remarkable. I had set the backlight to 10% manually.

  • Same problem here. Updated to 19.19 on a 1040 Solar and on the next ride the battery went from 100% to 43% after only a 6 hour ride. I do really long rides and I've had 34 hour rides for the battery to drain to 43%. Something is going on after the 19.19 upgrade.

  • 1 hour indoor and around 25% battery drain, that is really extreme since 19.19

  • I’ve experienced this significant increase in battery drain on the 1040 since updating as well. At the same time I also noticed the Garmin Connect app on my iPhone was using a heap of battery also. I was wondering whether there was something happening between the 1040 and Garmin Connect

I'd suggest rebooting your phone as well as the Edge.

  • I contacted Garmin support about our 19.19 issue with battery drain this morning and they recommended changing settings as per https://support.garmin.com/en-US/?faq=VNJ19LsTJT0D7fNNZ4SIk9 .  If this doesn’t resolve the issue, to contact them again.

Since we didn’t modify settings going from 18.25 to 19.19 I don’t expect this to solve the issue, but have little choice and will “comply”.

I suggest people contact them officially as I have.

  • On my bike ride last night, I noticed the auto-backlighting fluctuate more wildly than I remember and getting stuck on high. The entire ride was in the dark, with occasional riding under street lights which was causing the backlighting to increase, but stay high, even when I went back into darkness. Once I disabled auto-backlighting and set it to low, I was able to get better battery consumption than my previous firmware 19.19 ride ( 9% drain over 2h:36min elapsed time), but still nowhere near what I used to get prior to 19.19.
