The following part - t's in the wrong section! It should be lower down with the rest of the UpdateFile stuff. If you remove it or move it down to other UpdateFile stuff the problem is solved. Now I don't know why the device puts it up in the wrong section! This section is supposed to be first the DataType specifications, then ending the MassStorageMode with the UpdateFile entries - however this part is mixed up top around DataType parts - while it belongs further back amongst the UpdateFile parts.
<UpdateFile><PartNumber>006-D9267-00</PartNumber><Version><Major>0</Major><Minor>1</Minor></Version><Path>Garmin/SQL/internal</Path><FileName>MapRegionGrouping.db</FileName></UpdateFile>
Ok, that‘s probably no help for you…
Yes, it helped mcinner1
I just downgraded BaseCamp to 4.6.2 - it took what felt like an eternity until the BaseCamp cache was filled again, but now it works again
Edit: After the cache was filled again, I plugged in the 1040 and the communication error came back -
can you send maps >4GB - delete maps via MapInstall and so on? Can you send routes/tracks with Basecamp? Otherwise nothing has changed. Sending maps after clicking away the error notice so far is always possible.
delete maps via MapInstall
this is new to me that MapInstall can also delete maps on the Edge
all maps aleady installed will have a tick - you remove the tick - means the map is deleted.
you mean GarminExpress extremecarver2 ?
No I mean MapInstall. Try it out with a fixed garmindevice.XML and you will see.

At this point I'm getting out, it's getting too complicated for me.
I use ready-made third-party-maps from the Internet and simply rename them from gmapsupp.img to a "speaking".img-name. Then copy it into the \Garmin folder and I've never had a problem with file sizes even > 4 GB (as long as there's enough space) and it's much faster.
If the demands on the map are greater (e.g. design), I use GMapTool.
Wish you a good night without nightmares in which Garmin plays a role
