Course Maps and Course Directions not syncing up.

Two issues I have been having with my maps. First is, I download a created course on Strava, load and and ride the course. When I view the course on the map, it tracks the course just as I would see it in Strava on my phone or computer. More than 50% of the time it will tell me that I am off course and need to turn around and beeping non stop. If I stop the course and re-attach the course mid-ride it no longer tells me I am off course. The second issue I am having is no matter what course I load and ride, it tells me on the top of the screen I need to "continue to N Harrison..." which is usually no where near the course I am riding. The strange thing is that "Turn Guidance" as a feature is OFF.

I uploaded the latest firmware and the latest maps and the issue persisted.

I know other people are having issues with the mapping features. I wanted to state that as of today I have done the latest updates and have this issue.

Tomorrow I will try to load a course from the Ridewith GPS IQ app and see if I encounter the same issues.

There are currently issues with turn guidance off. I know it may not be what you want, but try it with turn guidance on.

As aweatherall says there are “issues”, (since the 1040 release almost a year ago); with navigation , course caching and especially Turn Guidance disabled / enabled, i tried to summarise them here https://forums.garmin.com/sports-fitness/cycling/f/edge-1040-series/300530/route-using-the-wrong-cached-directions/1614145#1614145 , covers some of your problems. They are somewhat random and not everyone sees them and sometimes the only “solution” is to enable Turn Guidance. We will likely see these on the new 540 / 840 devices so they might get some attention. I hope Garmin is working on these as my 1040 is pretty useless at times for my type of riding (Audax), I sometimes revert to using my 530 and always carry it as backup.

I loaded my map from ride with gps with guidance enabled and it worked fine. But guidance is annoying. Monday I will do the same but turn off guidance. At least the issue of telling me I was off course didn't happen.

I have a support ticket open with Garmin for the issues associated with having Turn Guidance off.

It is little hidden

Seems to be occurring (disappearing chevrons & Crs Pt DIST stuck at 884m) on the 840 now as well, after an off course, Garmin “lost” the navigation skill?

Did a common route that throws off course errors and guidance to the incorrect roads. This time I loaded from RidewithGPS, turned off guidance and off route notifications. Worked without issue. Tomorrow I will do the same with RidewithGPS IQ app with Off Route Notices turned back on.

No solutions at all. I just spent 2 hours on with support and they just want to blame the maps because mine are created in Strava and not their app which sucks the sphincter. He kept asking for specific proof.

I also had my speed go from 46kph to 14kph while descending, then to 32, then back up to the 40s. It didn't show up on the graph but it as definitely on my screen. He told me that's normal to see fluctuations in speed. I had an 830 and never had the issues with the maps or speed sensor.
