Strava segments

des que je commence un parcour impossible de charger les segments strava  le smartphone étant bien connecte

  • The route I built that shows the segment on GC Mobile goes from my home, so I won't share it.  Let me build another one that starts somewhere random and includes the sage segment.

Do you want the Garmin or Strava URL?

  • I forgot that Strava courses are marked private in Garmin Connect so cannot be accessed by another user. I think you will need to work with Garmin Support on this and give them permission to access your account.

  • Hello,

Same issue here and for those who say things about it is a Strava issue and you have to create a course...That's false.

The Edge should be able to load ALL Strava segments that are marked with a Stars (Favorite) as long as you have the Strava Account synced with Garmin Connect. It is not mandatory to load a course from Strava nor create a Garmin Connect course; the Edge should be able to always load all segments no matter if you're just riding with no course/route or loaded a course, that's the way it always worked, it worked like that in my old Edge 830, it was working before with my Edge 1040 before this issue started, and it works in Garmin smartwatches in that way also; so don't say false things like you have to create courses and load courses, the Edge should be more than capable to detect the segment based on its GPS and then load it and change your data screen to the Segment Data Screen.

I just noticed this issue yesterday when I was riding over a segment that I marked as favorite, because I wanted to break my PR, but it never loaded the segment so I was frustrated.

What is really sad is that Garmin Staff does not come here to provide any single answer, they can see the world burning, the buildings falling down, cyclists crying and they just don't care about Customer Sentiment...very bad post-sale support for such expensive device.

  • MY issue is to do with riding Strava created courses that should have embedded segments. It has only recently stopped working. Free ride segments work as they should.

  • @Juan Flores

    Sorry, but this is wrong.

The Edge products including the 830 can only execute a segment when you are following a course if the segment is referenced inside the course file. This has always been the case and has not changed.

If you are free riding it will match the segments you have on the unit. If you are following a course it will only execute the segments that are referenced inside the course file.

  • No, you're wrong. I've done this segment several times with no course and not referencing the segment in any day, and the Edge used to load it properly showing the Segment Data Screen in my Edge 830 and 1040 a few months ago before I moved to different city: https://www.strava.com/segments/13483694

I never loaded the segment on a course but I only have it marked with a Star ( Favorite) which always was enough to have it loaded to my Edge automatically.

  • You are miss reading what I'm saying.

You don't need a course for segments to work, but if you are using a course then segments must be referenced in the course file for them to work at the same time as the course.

  • I agree (I think!).

I just downloaded the GPX file for a course which shows a segment on GC mobile and embedded at the top of the file is XML for the segment.  From the names I presume they are way points rather than track points

I wonder if you could add waypoints to a RideWithGPS route to trigger Strava Segments?  Or I guess you can manually edit the GPX, re-upload but that's a right faff.

  • Only Strava created routes will have the embedded segments.

  • If you know what you are doing with FIT you could add it, but it is not supported by GPX as it also contains the Strava segment number.
