Activity not updating to Garmin Connect

First ride yesterday since updating to 15.24 and the ride did not update to Connect.

Checked that the Edge 1040 was connected to WiFi and also to my Android phone via Bluetooth and all was good.
I had to connect the 1040 to my PC to update Garmin Express to manually upload the activity. Reminds me of the old days when I was using an old 500.

Anyone else having this problem?

  • Yes, I have been a long time Wahoo user. 12,000 miles ridden on wahoo devices. Never had a problem getting any ride to upload (or record). Loved some of the features of the Edge 1040, but having the same problem. So far only 4 out of 20 rides have uploaded as they should. The others I have had to connect to Garmin Express with a cable to get them to upload. Very very disappointed in this. Cannot find any connection as to why one will work and another will not.  Phone is on iOS 16.2, Edge is on latest firmware.  I have tried forgetting the phone and repairing, same problem. Tried hard resetting the Edge by holding power button for 8 seconds, same problem.  The only rides that have successfully uploaded on their own are ones that ended at my house, where the home wifi connection was available. But even that is inconsistent, as I tested and did another ride right after and it failed to upload. Only a 50% or so success rate with home wifi being available.  Also - interestingly garmin connect DOES show that I did a heart rate workout even though the ride doesn't upload. So some part of the data seems to upload even if the entire ride does not.

  • Update:

I followed these instructions which were posted on another thread and it seems to solved the problem for me.

These were the full steps I followed to remove/re-add the device.  Additionally, I uninstalled and re-installed Garmin Connect on my phone.

She also had me do this, even though the computer sync wasn't an issue:

  • I tried all that already, no change. Still no upload.  Well... everything except the uninstall/reinstall of garmin connect at least. Made no difference. But I'm game to try it again and add in the uninstall/reinstall of garmin connect this time.  In the middle of an ice storm outside right now, so will be a few days before I can test upload though.

  • Im having similar problems with just 2 cycling activities that wont upload.  All the other activities upload.  Some super fast uploads some painfully slow but they upload to the app. I guess somehow garmin 1040 corrupted the files and the app just doesn't see them. It seems quite random but it pisses me off. I use Strava to keep my tallies for the year but it wont let u manually input elevation gained for acycling activity so this last ride was over 3,000 ft of climbing that I lost simply because I cant prove it.

Anyway ive tried everything including resetting the 1040.

The data for that activity is there in the Garmin 1040 I can pull it up on the screen I even saved the course for future use but it just doesn't upload.  What the hell is up with that.

Any other solutions would be helpful but doubtful.

Thnx for ur time and I hope Garmin reads this.

  • I have the same issue. Anyone solved it?

  • I hold on/off button for 15 sec to reset garmin then turn on and wait.  Its work all but 2x. Those times I copied the files into strava. Its a royal pain in ass and takes time but it appears 2b the only work around. Good luck

  • For me a sync trough Mac via garmin express worked

  • For me, it happens quite often that my 1040 does not auto-sync to Garmin Connect at the end of a ride. When that occurs, the simple fix is to (1) shutdown the 1040, (2) shutdown Garmin Connect on my iPhone (i.e. Swipe up in task manager), (3) restart Garmin Connect on my iPhone and finally (4) power on my Edge 1040.  Then it usually syncs quickly.  And this problem is with all Garmin devices.  My friend with a 1030 Plus has the same problem and my steps always fix the sync issue.

  • The issue though - at least for me - was that it did not sync a specific activity. Neither through connect, nor trough wi-fi. I've created a "fake" activity to try to push sync (just started and stopped stoper) and this activity did sync, while the previous (true) one still did not...

Before syncing trough mac/garmin express a tried all obvious solutions incl. re-starting both app and edge.

  • I have the same issue.  50% of the time “training status” data sync but not the activity itself (in my case cycling).  I have tried all of the above and more and the only thing that works is USB to Windows and sync the 1040 that way.  Once I do that, the ride shows up on Garmin connect.  Very frustrating.
