Garmin 1040 Still Will Not Sync!

Why Gamin?

Turn off wifi, turn on wifi, tun off bluetooth, turn on bluetooth.

Any way you do it - it takes 10+ times before it can sync (I cannot get it to sync on bluetooth) - the only way is wifi over and over and over.

Regretting moving from the 1030!

  • Between leaving wifi disabled and updating the Garmin Connect app on my phone to the latest version (4.58.2 on iOS) my 1040 has been syncing consistently over Bluetooth.

  • Same frustrations here!

    iPhone 15.6.1

    Garmin Connect 4.58.2.2

  • I guess this is about sync with a phone.
What kind of phone? You give very little information.

I use an Edge 1040 and a Samsung S21 and the sync is doing fine.

  • iPhone. Garmin 1040.

Not working right with sync. Latest app, and all updates in place.

Won't sync on wifi with out 10 retries manually, and very difficult (I have yet to get it to work) when on bluetooth.

  • Same problem here. Brand new 1040 Solar *mostly* does not sync workouts over bluetooth, but settings can be adjusted with the phone. "Mostly" meaning that it did work once after I disabled wifi and rebooted the device. After the next ride, it again did not work. The phone app shows that syncing starts, but then the progress bar immediately disappears as if the sync is complete -- even though it did not do anything.

I've tried both 12.16 and 14.19 beta, same problem. The phone is Samsung Galaxy S21 with Android 12. FWIW, my previous Edge 820 had the same issue.

  • Update: It seems that at least my issue is related to having two Garmin devices connected to a single phone. I forgot to mention that I also have an Epix gen 2, which has been working flawlessly with the S21. Now that I have the Edge 1040 it looks like also the Epix is having occasional syncing problems.

For now, I paired the Edge 1040 with my tablet instead of the phone at least so far there are no issues with syncing. IMO if having two devices connected to a single phone is not supposed to work, the Connect app should refuse to do that in the first place.

  • I have a Venu 2 watch and an Edge 1040, both connected to my Samsung S21, no sycing issues.
The Edge has been added after the the Venu

  • I would recommend following the troubleshooting steps in our FAQ here to see if any of this resolves your syncing issue. There is no reason that you having an Edge and an Epix device being connected at the same time should cause any issues. Some of the recommended steps would be to delete the device from the app and your phone's bluetooth settings, restarting both, and then pairing as if they were new.

  • ios 15.6.1, app is 4.58.2 and I have a fenix 7 and edge 1040 connected. Both happily sync using BT and Wifi - in fact they are far more reliably syncing than the 1030+ and FR245 ever were !!

  • I'm getting the same issue running on 14.19.  1040 was syncing perfectly before, now I need to plug it into the computer and use Garmin Express.  Really, really annoying
