Garmin 1040 Still Will Not Sync!

Why Gamin?

Turn off wifi, turn on wifi, tun off bluetooth, turn on bluetooth.

Any way you do it - it takes 10+ times before it can sync (I cannot get it to sync on bluetooth) - the only way is wifi over and over and over.

Regretting moving from the 1030!

  • Ok, followed the steps over the weekend, and it did work once or twice (the second time may have synced over wifi). In fact, this time it was even a bit worse than before, since the training calendar did not sync even if the workouts did. But today, the workouts again fail to sync.

I'm quite certain that when I pair either Epix or Edge with the tablet and the other one with the phone, both will again sync properly.

  • Ya u are right regretting moved from 1030 to 1040 Face palm tone1‍♂️ more Tham 30 times tried yet to sync

  • tried this several times, with no improvement. very frustrating on a high end product

  • My 1030 continually had this problem.  It was one of the reason I went to the 1040 (among others). I’ve seen this on the 1040 a couple of times during one version of firmware but nothing since.

This is seem to start when wifi was brought in and the option to sync via wifi directly was available and also still the method of Bluetooth via a phone with Garmin connect. My default is wifi when I return home.  I’ve seen most problems when I’ve been away from that and swapped to Bluetooth/phone. It’s either failed then or failed when switching back to wifi.

  • Mine still has this issue, it's really, really annoying.  My 830 used to sync without any issues, the 1040 did in the early days but subsequent FW updates seem to have broken it.  Every ride now ends with the game of turning the 1040 off, turning it back on, closing down GC on the iPhone, opening it all back up.  Normally within two or three goes of turning everything on and off it eventually syncs.

  • Anyone know how to get a 1040 to sync? Haha This is so bad it's funny (besides all the money I spent)

  • What happens when you try? Just works for me. Especially over wifi. Can pin a route in rwgps, turn on 1040 a minute later, within 2-3 minutes the route is showing on the 1040 screen, without doing anything else. Away from home using bluetooth to my iphone it sometimes needs a restart of Connect and/or manual push of the sync icon button in that app.

  • My order of operations

    1) pray that it can somewhat control my Kickrpower level.  50% of the time my prayers are answered. Or I ride outside.

    2) Ride

    3) Save and answer the cute little questions about how I felt.

    4) go to the app and review how slow I was.  Look at my phone with a confused face wondering where my workout is.  Anything I do with my Epix shows up immediately because that got the A-team software people.

    5) go to the 1040 and "sync now" in the phone area.

    6) go back to my phone and look confused again. Hit the blue circular arrow thing a few times.  Look confused some more.  Go to devices and "sync now".  More swearing.

    7) repeat 4-6 a few more times.  Maybe do a hard reset by holding power for a while.

    8) look at it again the next day.  Sometimes my ride is there but my load continues to decrease like I didn't do anything.  Sometimes there is nothing except the ride is in my 1040 history.

    9) swear more.  Think about being a runner instead but then I remember how boring that is for me.

    10) post sarcastic things to the forum out of shear frustration.

    Garmin Disconnect ver 4.70.1

  • My activities eventually appeared but I didn't get any credit for them in my "load".

One of my personal favorite 1040 "benefits" is when I ride outside while wearing my Epix..... The activity shows as a MoveIQ (what smarts!) thanks to my watch, but the 1040, which tracked my activity, can't even sync to show the activity in Garmin Disconnect!

I probably should have bought the cheapest bike computer that has extended display so I could just use my Epix 2 for everything and not have to look at my wrist all the time.

  • I might have a solution.... despite my Epix 2 updating fine and instantly, my 1040 will not.

After a workout, if I go to the Garmin Disconnect app and force it to stop, when I restart the app my history has updated.  Endlessly syncing and all the other goofiness doesn't work but a "force stop" works!
