New Edge 1040 Series Public Beta 14.12 Now Available

A new Beta software for the Edge 1040 Series has been released. Full change log, instructions, and software for installing the beta can be found in the link below.

    I rode with this beta on a 100km and 160km ride this weekend, no major flaws found, so far.

    I lost all my sensors 2-3 times (happened once at the beginning of the ride and several hours later).

    Biggest annoyance was with my Varia RTL510: after several hours of riding, it started to disconnect and reconnect like 10 times in a row and it was good for several hours after. No idea if it's with the Varia or the Edge, but it's very annoying!

    I also saw the big delays on the grade. There's a big lag, if I'm going down a hill for 20 meters down and go up right after, for 20 meters up, when I'm on the top of the hill, the grade was still negative, even if my total ascent raised as it should.

    Coming from an Edge 530 (which is far from being perfect), the grade lag is higher on the 1040!

    Thanks man. I am not sure why some people are trying to blindly defend Garmin. I really love Garmin (otherwise I would not buy such expensives "toys" like Edge 1040, Garmin Pedals, Radar, etc). BUT that doesn't mean they are not making very silly mistakes on the Edge 1040 firmware here.

    It is almost impossible has Strava Segments Widget working on this firware. As far as I heard, it is now even confirmed that IT IS NOT WORKING at all. So...that is it. Let the guys fix it and that it.

    Regarding Climb Pro: I checked again and it not about file. Did some checks with an older route that used to be SPOT ON on my edge 830 and it was like 30 to 40 seconds delay on Edge 1040. If I can get a place to put 1040 and 830 both together I will make a video.

    So here is the deal:

    1) Strava Segments Widget: 100% confirmed it is not working on this 14.12 Beta. I got the job to REINSTALL it, redo all the Strava process again and keeps saying to login. When I reverted back (second time) to 12.16, it worked instantly.

    2) Climb Pro: at least on my case it is notr about the map. The route I used was one I used a few times with Edge 830 and it was spot on. On Edge 1040 it was out of synch. So something is making Edge 830 and Edge 1040 read the same route on CLimb Pro different. I was expecting GNSS Multi-band to improve. So I am almost sure it is a bug they will find soon.

    3) For some reason, after 3:30h of my ride, all sensors were indeed down and never reconnected. Only after a full Power down and Power Up Edge 1040 started to see sensors again. I had never experience such a big failure as of now. I am happy that this didn't happen to you, but happen to me and it is a fact. I had two CIQ installed Powermaro and My Bike Radar Traffic. It happened a few moments I took a Screen Capture (power button on Edge) on screen that had My Bike Radar Traffic.

    What is : Strava Segments Widget?

    you are referring to Segments explore?

    Or Strava Segments as functionality?

    It seems Strave Segments Explorer Widget it is the official name. The widget come pre-installed on Edge 1040 and allows you to look for segments in Strava

    never use it, I star the segments directly from strava, I know that if you have active ride you cannot find segment and imported , you have to stop the ride

    But discussion was Strava segments functionality not for the widget

    At least is goot to know Strava Live Segments still works even with Strava Widget not working.

    Yeah I think the widget mainly is to see what you have starred when it is working. I know you can download them while not riding but personally don't give that widget a second thought.
