LiveTrack not ending at end of ride

For the last week I’ve noticed that LiveTrack has not automatically ended when I stop and save my rides.  It seems to have started with the latest 12.16 firmware (which I installed when it was beta to fix the missing Di2 Chainring shift alerts), but I think Garmin Connect updated at around the same time as well.  I have to go into Garmin Connect and manually end it.

The other thing I’ve noticed is that the ride does not automatically upload at the end of the ride, no matter how long I wait.  If I restart the Garmin Edge this seems to kickstart the upload process though.

Has anybody else seen anything like this?

  • …the other thing I’ve noticed is significant battery drain on my phone.  I’d expect Livetrack to have some impact on battery life, but after 5 hrs my phone was almost dead and i’ve never noticed anything like that before.

  • I have been experiencing excessive battery drain on phone also. Not sure when it started but uses much more battery now.

  • Live track did not stop at end of ride again. Maybe phone connection was dropped because battery life (of phone) wasn't as bad as it's been.

  • Ok so used my Edge 1030 today.  Livetrack didn’t start saying the phone was not connected, so after 20 mins I stopped, unlocked the phone and it connected and started the Livetrack.  I stopped after 1.5hrs and turned off the Edge, when I resumed the phone reconnected ok.  At the end of the ride Livetrack stopped ok and the ride uploaded ok. Checked the Livetrack route and everything was fine.  Checked phone and battery was still 90%+.

So it seems to be the Edge 1040 and not Garmin Connect.

  • I tweaked some settings on my Phone last night and today Livetrack and ride upload worked perfectly.  There seems to be a number of different Garmin pages on what settings are needed on your phone.  In the end, I followed the advice on this page under the section "I followed the steps above but continue to have problems" and it seems to have done the trick:  Huawei Smartphone Bluetooth Troubleshooting With a Garmin Fitness Device | Garmin Support.  The Allow Background activity and Allow Auto Launch were not enabled.  I then found this page which covers my phone (Realme): My Garmin Device Stopped Receiving Notifications From My Android Phone | Garmin Support.  It looks like Auto Launch can be set in two different place on my phone.  So, I don't know if I do really need the Allow Background Activity as well.  I'll leave it as is for a few rides and if all is ok, will try turning off Background activity to see what that does.

Seems strange that the 1030 didn't seem to need this though.

  • Well, I have deactivated livetrack in GARmin connect and it continues to start automatically in each activity.... try it and see

  • ttalonso - are you sure you gave it time for the setting change to sync from Garmin Connect to the Edge?  I remembered when I read your post that I had turn of autostart the day before, yet Livetrack had started for me.  I checked the Edge before today's ride and it was turned off and it didn't start, so I manually started it a bit later.

Unfortunately, despite all the previous changes to the phone Livetrack did not end after the ride and it didn't auto-upload.  A restart of the Edge did the trick though and after a few mins the ride uploaded and Livetrack stopped itself.

  • LiveTrack started, ended and tracked my whole ride today.  Ride also uploaded immediately after saving it. I then noticed that Garmin Connect (Android) updated earlier in the day.  Fingers crossed!
