LiveTrack not ending at end of ride

For the last week I’ve noticed that LiveTrack has not automatically ended when I stop and save my rides.  It seems to have started with the latest 12.16 firmware (which I installed when it was beta to fix the missing Di2 Chainring shift alerts), but I think Garmin Connect updated at around the same time as well.  I have to go into Garmin Connect and manually end it.

The other thing I’ve noticed is that the ride does not automatically upload at the end of the ride, no matter how long I wait.  If I restart the Garmin Edge this seems to kickstart the upload process though.

Has anybody else seen anything like this?

  • Nope. I use 12.16 and the Livetrack stops when I end the ride and is uploaded. I do however do not get an "activitiy uploaded" message on the 1040, as I would see on my previous 1030 Plus.

  • This has happened to me before. Didn't end properly today. Most of the time it does.

  • In my case the livetrack is lost halfway and does not reconnect. With the 1030+ I had had no problems for many months and considered it stable. Now we are back to zero until someone from Garmin hits the key.

  • Several rides into 12.16 and auto start/stop of livetrack works just fine..

auto upload of completed activities is also working fine.

  • Problems appear if you stop for coffee halfway. Or you enter the gas station and you get too far from the bike and the phone/Garmin lose connection... Then many times it seems not to continue, something that before with the 1030+ reconnected and continued. Will have to keep trying.

For example, today works perfect for me. Stopping for a cofee include

  • Are you running 12.16 on your Edge? It would also be helpful to know what version of Garmin Connect Mobile you have, as well as what operating system and version are on your phone.

  • Yes, 12.16. Samsung Galaxy S8 - Android version 9, GCM version 4.56.

Very happy with unit. Will try cold boot. Most of the time works fine.

    Thanks for the help.

  • My Livetrack ended ok today for the first in over a week.  The activity still didn't upload until after i'd restarted the Edge and then it was pretty instant.  I checked the Livetrack and it had captured the whole ride.  Yesterday Livetrack failed to start with error code 44 - I think.  GCM 4.56, Android 11 on a Realme X50 5G.

  • So for today’s ride Livetrack did not start when I first set off  When I stopped at a Cafe after 1.5hrs I checked GCM and noticed that it had started, but 1hr into the ride.  When I got home and saved the ride it successfully stopped Livetrack and uploaded the ride :-). However, when I checked the Livetrack itself it seems to have taken another hour before it found my location, so I have a long straight line after the coffee stop for about 20K.  All in all, it captured less than half of a 3.5hr ride.  I was riding in open countryside so should be no issue with getting a signal.  Edge 12.16, GCM 4.56, Android 11. Starting to think this is more GCM than Edge.  To prove this I was thinking of going back to my 1030 for a few rides as I never had many issues with that before.

  • On yesterday’s ride Livetrack started ok and was fine for 2hrs.  When I stopped for lunch i stopped the ride and switched off the edge.  After lunch I resumed the ride, but when I checked a few hrs later it hadn’t updated the track at all.  I also noticed that I wasn’t get any weather.  So I think the fundamental cause of my problems is the Edge not connecting (or staying connected) to my phone.  Went for a short ride this morning and Livetrack didn’t start and I got the error 44 message.
