Is the screen contrast in the solar option really worse in heavy light compared to the regular 1040? I still hesitate to buy the solar version as visibility of the screen is key issue to me.

In direct sunlight you mean? It excels there, everything looks great. Zero complaints at all
Yes, specially in direct sunlight, but I mean visibility and contrast of the screen in general. I came across a remark on worse performance of the solar screen in comparison to the regular one.
Have you personally tested solar and non solar side by side? It’s not a secret that the 1030 & 1040 screens are no where near the vivid colour with others in the edge range. I wasn’t aware any differences with the two 1040 range in regards to the screen clarity.
Excuse me? the 1040 screen is more vivid than my previous 830.
No. Really to see the difference between transflective GARmin screens...they are all equally bad. Solar EL 1040 is clearly darker, whites worse.
yes, of course. but there was a statement the 1040 screen was less vivid than previous edge generations.
Your eyes must see differently to everyone else then
Below is a photo comparing my 830 to my 1040 Solar in direct sunlight.
Yes, the 1040's solar display isn't quite as clear as 830's display. However, the 1040's solar display is still excellent, IMO. Below are a couple more photos of my 1040 Solar on a ride.
The 1040 Solar's colors and contrast are excellent to me. Yes, there are some reflections, though this is inherent with any glass display, solar or non-solar. Some of y'all (excuse my Indiana English) are splitting hairs! Just buy the 1040 Solar and be happy!
Looks good. The colours could be better, have you tried the 1030 or 1030 plus. I had both and the colours were terrible, slight improvement with the 1040
