Any way to add POIs on a really, really long tour made in a different route builder

I'm racing ultra distances, and make my routes in Komoot. Currently I'm into a route that's 4100 kms long, and divided into 32 smaller parts.

I'm going into territory that I absolutely don't know, and would like to include certain POIs, like gas stations, stores, and stuff.

However, I'm really reluctant to put my routes into Garmin Connect and add the POIs from there. Is there any other way to actual get my Edge 1040 to list a list of POIs without having the route in Garmin Connect and add them there?

    Have same issue here. 

    Created POI file as .gpi and tried to add this on Edge 1040, however nothing seems to happen.

    The trick worked on Edge 1030, but so far NOT on Edge 1040 SOLAR.

    Missed chance of garmin so far... very dissapointed about the unit....

     ok I had all day ride yesterday, double centrury,  and plenty of time to test stuff.  Do RWGPS, does allow me to add cues,   These are then visible as course points in web garmin connect, and as icons on the map in the iphone connect app, and as a list in the 1040.  great suff.  Now yesterday i was riding with voice on vie the connect app, that also worked great. .  However at no poin did i see one of the corse points display,  no bleep notification , and no voice reading them.   they did get "removed" form the corse point list which was also not handy. would have been better top cross them through or check them off some how. just disapering leave me in the dark so to speek. "have is passed it? .... its just gon, , when was it ?

    OK guessing hear. from another web page, i saw that insterd of garmen cues,  the edge can use corse points, and can have a max of 200. watches get 50), it apear to be able to use one of other.    Again this is not usefull on ultras / double centrires.   I dont wan to go through creatin 2oo mile of cues when garmen can do it very well these days (early days a diferent store, but we have moved on).  I would lijke 3 modes;  1) germen generated,  2) corse points only. 3)   no i have to choice to creatw all mu own , of use RWGBS custom cues / corse points  as extras for what ever I have in mind.  - best of both worlds

    custom cues are now appearing, at the bottom of the screen but ther is no audable note, and (would be nice voice notification) so they are easily missed.  aparently the 1030 has audible notifications.
