The edge 1040: An absolute disaster of bugs

My list of bugs so far:

  • Random crashes
  • Random freezing on pull down menu
  • Refusing to sync rides today, WIFI and Bluetooth. 
  • Doesn't correctly show charging, when it is
  • Strava segment pops up even when set not to
  • Segment plays you lose sound when you exit or ride past it
  • If stopping activity on a segment, the summary map shows the segment, not the ride you did
  • Di2, doesn't play tones for chainring shift next
  • Can't remove daily suggested workouts
  • ALL sensors dropped a few seconds into ride and wont reconnect no mater what i do (will have to try factory reset)
  • Sometimes really slow on front screen
  • Twice now ive come to turn it on and its refused, having to hold the button down 30 seconds to get it to wake up. 

I'm on version 12.11. There are more, ive forgotten because there are just so many. Its really unacceptable.

    What advanced features?

    -I have tried routing, strava segments, sugested workout,  I have bounch of sensors connected, I had ride 400 km since I bought it.

    Do you use any of the CIQ datafields?

    No, I had previously on 1030 Iq map fields(6 fields) but it did not transfer on 1040 so the answer is no, no IQ fields activated

    Ok, then it is not surprising, because the sensor disconnects happen only when at least one CIQ datafield is set that reads sensors.

    10x, good to know, I am not a fan, still I had previously use some fields for power collor ( but seems to be displayed with some delay on 1030)

    Actually, I would argue it is useful data. I don't think people should trivialize the very real bugs and problems people are having, but I do think that the true value of threads like this are not just in reporting problems but also in people posting smooth sailing and good experiences with the device(s). The key in a new launch like this, particularly a Garmin Edge device that almost always launches with problems, is for people to see how commonplace and widespread the problems are. It is very important that all you folks report the problems, because sometimes it really does seem like purchasers of any new Edge device are essentially glorified beta-testers; but are these problems that a high percentage of users are experiencing? Or are they relatively rare, and seem statistically higher than they actually are, by virtue of people only reporting their experiences on forums when they are negative?

    As someone who will be buying a non-solar 1040 very soon, I would like answers to these questions, and not just fanboy responses who unconditionally defend Garmin or only the negative views.

    I had moved away from Garmin a few years ago bc of terrible software, but DCR kinda gave me a hope so I decided to give it another try. OMFG, how this “product” could ever be released!! I’m sending it back straight away. Nothing has changed over years. They even cannot render the webpage of this forum to let it look not overlapping content on iPad Pro. 21 century, my ass.

    And you moved to....what company ? Because my feeling that all are the same boat 

    Agree with overlapping , happening to Windows as well

    To just loop back. after a week of use. 

    • ALL sensors dropped a few seconds. We now all know this is Connect IQ fields. With these removed its ok. The developer of the CIQ field i use has now created a working version as an interim until Garmin sort this. They look like they are on it. 
    • Random freezing and crashing - i've not had any more of this. 
    • Syncing, now all seems to be good. 
    • Strava segments. These are wonky for sure but work. I cant disable them popping up. They play the you lose sound when i exit or don't enter. Once complete, the completion popup doesn't go away. 
    • Di2, doesn't play tones for chainring shift next - confirmed bug. 
    • Can't remove daily suggested workout. Confirmed missing feature
    • Refusal to turn on - i've not had this again. 

    I've hung onto my device for now. I was close to returning it.

    Comments about wahoo. I've had one and they are so basic so you really cant compare. The bugs we speak about are with features you cant even get on those devices. If you are happy with a wahoo then i don't know why you would even consider a flagship 1040. And iPads? Really? Why are we talking about iPads?

    Agree. 
    But as I heard it will be for couple next month’s until unit will be stable.

    On this moment 1030 + works better in my opinion :)
