Solar charging temporarily disabled

I've used the new 1040 Solar only once so far without issue. Setup and migration worked really well (other than CIQ apps/data fields not migrating due to not being updated to include the 1040 as compatible).

Tonight I turned it on to load a course for tomorrow. When putting it to sleep I noticed the message, "Solar charging temporarily disabled. after the Edge cools down, solar charging will resume." The device had been sitting inside unused today and was not hot, or even warm. I power cycled it but no luck. It was previously charged to 99% so maybe solar charging is disabled if not needed? Either way, the message on screen is odd.

Anyone else seen this?

  • I don't think the battery is my issue. Just the overheating message when the Garmin is on room temperature.

I placed it in the refrigerator for a few minutes to cool it below room temperature. That's seems have solved it. Even after an hour out of the refrigerator the solar still worked

Still an issue to keep an eye on for me and Garmin.

  • Mine hasn't used solar for 2 rides now. Very frustrating.

I have this issue since version 12:15. Can someone help me how I can roll back to the previous version? That version worked for me

  • Greeting. I bought the other day an Edge 1040 and I charged it by cable at 100% then I went out with it for a tour. Outside it was about 32-34 Celsius. I noticed it does not load anything along the way (80 KM) even when I finished the tour. Nothing. He said he temporarily disabled solar charging. I do not understand what is the job..... It stayed inside at the coolness. After all, it doesn't have to be charged in the sun....? I really don't understand this 2-cent phase. I have the latest software version (I think 12.16). This phase messed me up.... I can't believe it.
