  • Does this work with the Bontrager version as well?

  • I was running the beta software updtes for a while (3-4 beta versions) until 1 killed by 1030.

I'm almost tempted to install this one but..... i think i'll wait for a full release.

  • Updated Firstbeat library for various improvements

Any chance this includes adding respiration rate as a feature that was never back ported to the 1030 from the other x30 units?

  • Fixed issue with BLE sensors in CIQ data fields after waking the Edge from sleep mode.

I'm assuming this won't fix the ant issue when waking from sleep? https://forums.garmin.com/developer/connect-iq/f/discussion/2844/edge-1000-generic-ant-quits-working-after-sleep

    (This impacts the 1030 too)

  • Added automatic course route caching.

Clever, I've always wondered why this didn't happen before!

Added smart syncing before an activity.

    What's this?

Updated Firstbeat library for various improvements and bug fixes including a fix for training stats being reset on a multiple day activity.

A good sign of things to come in general: previously FirstBeat components were rarely updated / features back-ported (presumably due to licensing), now Garmin owns FirstBeat = more flexibility?

  • Added support for including metabolic calories in the total calories reported in the calories data field and recorded in the activity file.

If you use powermeter and you cycle first half of the climb and then proceed running the next half, would this feature add "run calories" to the activity?

  • Metabolic calories are the calories that your body burn regardless of physical activity, it is in the order of 2000 a day but varies with sex, age, weight, genetics, etc. It used to be left out and the Edge was only reporting activity-related calories.

With regards to switching activity type no the Edge never did this and will never do it. You need a multi-sport watch for the sort of thing. The Edge is cycling only and cannot compute running calories. Different activity types use different algorithms to computer calories, and edge has only one activity type, that is cycling.

    • Added support for including metabolic calories in the total calories reported in the calories data field and recorded in the activity file.

I doubt this is a useful function and I hope it can be turned off. Metabolic calories are better accounted for on a daily basis if your work with a precise diet. Having the Edge try to include some in the activity only makes it harder to get your actual calories for the entier day, the basis for budgeting calories.  I hope the feature can be turned off at least.

  • Added smart syncing before an activity.

    Same question: what is this?

    • Added support for including metabolic calories in the total calories reported in the calories data field and recorded in the activity file.

disaster - now when my activity syncs with my Fenix my calories account for the BMR during a cycling activity TWICE?
