Wrong Temperature

Hello

My Edge 1030+ seems to be +4 to +5 degrees Celsius off.

Is there any way to recalibrate it ?

Thanks

  • There is an alternative: the Garmin Tempe sensor. Yes it costs some 25 euro, but it is really a fine and precise piece of instrument. Easy to tie(wrap) under a saddle and provides reliable temperatures.

OK I suppose if you only have one bike, but having to move it from bike to bike to bike (I think I have 11 of them) would be a PITA.

  • I know what you mean, I am always short 1 bike from the optimum too.

I am using velcro, but you could alternatively buy several of these:

Link to clip for Tempe sensor

Remains a hassle if you move it to another bike on a daily basis. But I only use it on really long rides and then the 2 minutes extra are negligible.

Of course it would be best if our edges would provide temperature information correctly. But it is what it is and for hardware reasons this will not be adjusted in our model.

  • The hardware doesn't need to be modified :-) .

The error is constant through the range and all that is required is a zero offset. Even if the error was non-linear, a calibration curve would be relatively easy to apply. Garmin released a correction was done on the 1030 version.

  • I have the same problem +4°/+6° C Disappointed

  • I've found a way of creating a CIQ data field t ogive a temperature correction :-)

(Garmin today assured me that the issue has been acknowledged by them and escalated. They also state that "they are working on fixing the issues sooner rather than later")

A temporary workaround is to download the HMs DIY#1 CIQ and  then plug in your Edge. Launch Garmin Express, and go to the IQ Apps section for the Edge. Click on the 3 dots next to HMs DIY#1 in the list. The configuration screen then appears. Enter this string into the default layout  string: C!!iQJ!ww*!zVb=!!!!!r!!iQ)$NL/,!"f@C!!!!!TEMPERATURE!"6]["TSNyJl-Wj!!!!!$V °F

You then apply the offset required ( for me -6F) to the Temperature Offset field. Sync your device. The new CIQ can be selected to replace any data field. (this has been sized for a 10 data field page).

The 'corrected' temperature will no be sent to Strava or a Varia Vision. They will still see the original temperature field.

    Enjoy.

  • I have the same problem, about 5C too hot

  • Thank you for this tip. What paremeter should be set for 8 data fields and day/night switching ?

  • I have 10 data fields and had to experiment with font size and field size to get the layout I needed.

For The Graphictype rectangular field x6,y7,x2 137, y2 88 - this is the white box the data appears in

For Text 'Temperature' X133, y15 Font Tiny H Alignment Right (The words used above the temp value) for me 'TEMPERATURE'

For Graphictype select Temperature from Dropdown, Text. $V °F  (change to C if preferred) Font NR-MILD H Alignment Right, X 121, Y43.

I'm not an expert with this designer, I worked it out as I went along. There are manuals provided in  the download that may help :-)

Please note that as mentioned elsewhere, the refresh rate for ICQ data fields is very slow and I don't know how to change that or even if it is possible with the HMs_DIYDesigner.

I've stopped using it because of that aspect and reverted back to the standard display :-(

Read out temperature for IQ apps is a background process. These event can not occur more often than every 5 minutes. It is not possible for the developer to change that.

  • Thanks for confirming :-)
