Software Version 6.10 and continuing sensor problems

As with others, prior to the 6.10 update, I had frequent sensor connection issues. After several rides with the update, the issues persist and have actually gotten worse. I get constant (usually several a minute) messages/beeps that the radar device (Varia 515) has disconnected. It doesn't seem to actually disconnect or it disconnects/reconnects on its own quickly but the constant warnings/beeps are unbearable. This occurred prior to the update and continues now. What's new since the update is frequent disconnections of the gear sensor (SRAM AXS). This occurs at least once or twice a minute. Neither of these issues existed with an older Edge 1000; the problems began with the Edge 1030 Plus.

I was hopeful that the 6.10 update would solve the sensor connection problems but, at least for me, it has not. Is anyone else experiencing this? Is Garmin aware of the ongoing issue and still working on it?

  • What firmware version is your RTL515 running?

  • Firmware 3.32. That is the most recent as far as I know.

  • 6.10 seems to have made it worse...the 6.0 beta seemed slightly better.

the radar is now back to disconnecting and the power sensors i have (stages and 4iii) both have noticeable disconnects

  • Indeed, never had problems with assiomas power meter but since 9.1 on edge 530, power is missing the fist half of 3H ride ...

  • Friday I had 5 disconnects (all 3 sensors at once) during a 100k ride with firmware 5.2. Monday I had 1 disconnect during a 40k ride with firmware 6.1, so not a final sulution here.

But something else bothered me: the signalling of RTL515 (specific the litle dots on the side of the screen representing cars) seems slower. I get de green signal seconds later than with the previous firmware, when the car is way past. So now I don't trust the distance anymore...

  • yes, i also noticed the progress dot's didn't seem to line up properly...several occasions the car's were already past me so i thought there was another car

  • Yesterday I went for a MTB ride, after a stop (tyre problem of a friend) my device went in standby.  After turning it on again my heart rate sensor wasn't connected anymore.  And even before the ride started, my bontrager lights were connected (using the bontrager control screen).  After a few minutes, light network was gone and couldn't control my front and tail light anymore.  During the ride I tried several times to disable/enable the light network but without success.  No light control anymore, and very disappointed in the software upgrade.

  • So, I’ve tried removing and reconnecting sensors, keeping some sensors disabled, and have done a factory reset. With v6.10, I still get repeated radar, light network, and gear sensor disconnections. My heart rate monitor also disconnects although not as often. As I said above, none of this happened with my old Garmin Edge 1000 and that was with the same bike and sensors.

What I have noticed is that the radar and gear sensors disconnect when I stop pedaling. While pedaling and putting out power the sensors are more stable with fewer disconnections. However, once I begin coasting (power field on the Edge shows zero watts), the radar and gear sensors disconnect within a couple of seconds. This is reproducible. Any thoughts? Anyone else experience this?

  • I have the RTL510 and received device failure warning after the upgrade. Had to turn off and on the unit to clear the error message. Seemed to work fine after that.

in addition, the unit started the emergency contact process after starting and stopping a ride after about 100yds.

  • its the same here with the Neo 2t

In addition, SRAM Red gears and SRM power meter also have drop-out issues. The same problems, by the way, emerge with Edge 530 (9.1).
