Riding a course with Edge 1030+ doesn't work anymore

Dear all,

I am usually using my Garmin Edge to simulate courses I have recorded. This worked without any troubles over the past year. However, after upgrading the firmware to 0.0.38 two weeks ago it appears as if the Tacx loses contact to the Edge after about 15-30 min as the selected route is not further simulated. Until now I have not identified any certain procedure, time point, or distance after this happens.

Although power, cadence etc. is still displayed, the route and gradient seems to be stucked and not updated anymore. The map-view as well as the road profile looks normal but might not be transferred to the Tacx.

I have already unpaired and repaired the Tacx from the Edge but was not successful.

Anyone else observing this phenomenon and get it solved?

many thanks

alfred

You always have a way out: go back to the previous firmware version.

  • thank you Alex,

I will try this in case of no other alternatives.

Suppose you have an idea of how to rollback?

    many thanks

  • Suppose you have an idea of how to rollback?

    About it here:
    https://forums.garmin.com/sports-fitness/indoor-training/f/tacx-neo-2/261105/is-firmware-rollback-to-0-0-36-possible-from-0-0-38

And regarding the alternative: there is some possibility that your Neo remained connected to another device (for example, the one with which you updated the firmware).

  • I will disconnect the Neo from the phone tomorrow and report here on whether or not this resolve the issue.

    cheers

  • Hi all,

a brief report on this issue and the recommendation from Alex to disconnect the phone.

    • First I disconnected the Neo from my phone (blue light on the Neo went off)
    • Turned on the Edge and the ANT connection worked properly (green light on)
    • Started the course and regularely checked the green light
    • Thought the issue is resolved as it worked pretty well for appr. 90 min
    • suddenly I realised that the resistance did not match the slope on the course
    • at this point the the green light was out for any reason
    • checked the phone > still disconnected
    • reconnected and disconnected the phone > works fine blue light on and off
    •

I was, however unable to re-establish the ANT connection with the Edge. Very disappointed and angry as the connection worked fine when Garmin and Tacx were DIFFERENT companies. Now its all in the hand of Garmin and the most basic function, which is connectivity, doesnt work.

Anyway, will re-check tomorrow with the firmware rollback and hope to resolve the problem.

    Stay tuned...

    regards

    Alfred

  • Todays update:

applied the rollback to 0.0.36, but the problem remained.

Within 5-20min the connection between Neo and Edge get lost and the Neo does not respond to any changes via the Edge. I have tried different routes as well as interval workouts. In addition removed and reconnected the Neo in several ways, indoor trainer only, or with power and speed sensors activated. Doesn't change anything.

I also used a different Edge (530) instead of the 1030+, same result. Therefore I believe the issue is related to the Neo and not to the headunit.

What bothers me is is the fact that I haven't had any issues for the past 18 monts, and now...its a shame.

    Any other recommendations available?

    cheers

  • the fact that I haven't had any issues for the past 18 monts

Is there any certainty about the firmware version Neo had at the time?

Signal stability can be negatively impacted by a strong extraneous signal (e.g. Wi-Fi).

  • not sure which firmware version I had before. I got the Neo in July 20 and most likely did the firmware update during the installation at that time.

Other signals: could be of course, although nothing changed here, neither placement of the Neo, nor WIFI router...

Another thing I will try tomorrow is connecting the Neo to the laptop via ANT and ride a route in Golden Cheetah, something I did occasionally in the past.

Meanwhile I have also reported to Garmin support, lets see what they suggest.

    thank you

  • Todays update:

as mentioned yesterday, I connected the Neo via ANT stick to the laptop and rode a course via Golden Cheetah. To my surprise there where no problems at all and I completed a 2.5h ride.

I assume therefore that the connection issue resides with the Edge and not the Neo. To confirm this I did a short 30min ride after the training with the Neo <> Edge setup and in fact the connection was lost after 15min as before.

Indeed I went back to my training files and realised that I did a firmware update to the Edge on Nov 17 (from 5.2 to 6.1). On Nov 16 I recorded a training without issues, whilst on Nov 19 the problems emerged.

I am pretty confident that the latest firmware update on the Edge is to blame for the connectivity issues.

Look forward to responses from Garmin support and will provide an update.

    cheers

  • I have moved my reports to another thread related to Edge issues, as I strongly believe it is not a Neo issue.
