Off road maps - Spain

Hi team and members,

Really nice to meet you all, virtually.

I am new on this. I bought an Edge 1030 Plus. Getting used to it because it comes with so man features.

Last weekend I used it for the first time and it seemed that cycling off road the maps were not as nice as I thought they would be. Maybe I am doing something wrong or don't have the right maps actived or installed. Or this is what it is and I am clueless.

Well, the maps I have activated are:

INTL Standard Basemap, NR
Garmin DEM Map EU 2020.10
Garmin Geocode Map EU 2020.10
Trailforks 2020.20
Garmin Cycle Map EU, South West, 2020.20
Garmin Cycle Map EU, North East, 2020.20

Do you think I am using the right maps? Do you think I should buy another map?

I had downloaded the "map" version (https://garmin.opentopomap.org/europe/spain/otm-spain.img), once I got the file, I had to rename it as "gmapsupp.img" and then I copied it the /Garmin directory…

What „Routing mode“ is set in your activity profile?
I have set „Mountainbiking“ but I think „Off road“ will do the same.

As you can see on my screenshot: my Edge routes…

It seems you have to navigate without turn guidance to achieve your goal!

I've tried out some plannings, but all programs…

I have the same doubts.

My device always tries to go by road for car instead of using dirt road or trails. Yesterday I made a route between two cities connected by a bike path, but the device always warnings me to go by the road.

You have to be more specific.

-when riding off road (mountainbiking?), there are not all tracks, pathes, ways on your map?
-you cannot decide which path to take, because they all are thin black lines with no further info?
-you let your Edge navigate from A to B and it does not calculate existing off road ways?

What exactly is your problem?

Hi @mcinner1,

I think best thing to do here is letting me ride a bit more with the Garmin and see if what I mentioned above persists.

Sorry if I raised something incomplete.

Yes, I can see all tracks, pathes and ways on my map, but the Garmin Edge 1030+ will not use it for routing.

My device will try to use a road instead of off-road roads. You can try to calculate the route between Colmenar Viejo (Madrid / Spain) to Madrid, there is a bike path between the two cities, parallel to the highway. The device wants you to go on the highway, a highway with three lanes.

I tried to let my Edge 1030 PLUS navigate from Colmenar Viejo to Madrid (which is not so easy for me sitting near Vienna/Austria)

What I've got seems not to be a highway...

First at all: Thanks for you time.

I hope you can see the image. I put the cursor on the green line (it is the "Carril Bici" which means "Bike Path") but the track calculated on the device goes by the parallel road.

I will try to setup the device in English.

Today I have installed from this URL: https://garmin.opentopomap.org/ to discard some kind of problem with my maps , but the result is the same. Before that I had installed/activated the standards:
