Repeating crash while on a course

Did a 100 mile plus ride today that I created in Ride with GPS then uploaded to my Edge 1030+ as a TCX file. The ride crashed repeatedly with the computer restarting over and over again. I didn't lose the ride just some of the time and distance. Usually happened when I was slightly off course. Also, could not get turn-by-turn prompts. Problem clearly began from the beginning of the ride becasue the turn-by-turn was frozen at the first prompt for the entire ride. How can I prevent this from happening again?

    The problem I had with updating maps appeared to be related to Garmin changing the naming conversion for the map files on the Edge 1030 Plus. The change of names for the map files appeared to cause the update failure. Removing the map with the old file name first using Manage Maps in Garmin Express before installing the update with the new file name. I only let Garmin Express near any of my Garmin devices when I absolutely have to (i.e. map updates) because of compatibility issues it has for me with Garmin Connect Mobile, so the issue I had may have been resolved.
