Repeating crash while on a course

Did a 100 mile plus ride today that I created in Ride with GPS then uploaded to my Edge 1030+ as a TCX file. The ride crashed repeatedly with the computer restarting over and over again. I didn't lose the ride just some of the time and distance. Usually happened when I was slightly off course. Also, could not get turn-by-turn prompts. Problem clearly began from the beginning of the ride becasue the turn-by-turn was frozen at the first prompt for the entire ride. How can I prevent this from happening again?

Look in the Garmin\Debugging folder for a file called err_log.txt. If there is one can you post it here as it might give some clues as to what is going on.

Oh no , I know this error from edge 830 :0((, there also it was a rtl_trap error. On edge 830 it happend when i am off course and climp pro was running, turn climp pro to off and try it again.....

Is Climb Pro the screen that comes up whenever you approach a rated climb segment? For this ride there were eight segments. I like using it and have never had a problem until this ride. Can try turning it off the next time.

Climb pro, is the function who shows you the climbs at your course, it is part of your configuration and you find it as a own data site. Normaly there are no problems, but while routing it seams that the function does make a memory problem on edge 830. If you are off course all climbs must calculated again. I got the problems also on long rides, or when many climbs are on the ride. Have a look on it.

I don't see a way to attach a file and also not sure how to tell which map version I have. This was the US map as I'm in New York City. I've been trying to install a new version of the US map but the install from Garmin Connect doesn't work very well IMO.

For the map update, if the problem occurs when Garmin Express tries to update the map on the Edge 1030 Plus after a successfull download, try removing the old version of the map from the Edge 1030 Plus using Manage Maps before running the update process.

This doesn't work! Looks like there's an extensive thread about problems updating maps using Garmin Express. I tried removing the 1030+ from Garmin Express and then added it back. Also reinstalled Garmin Express. No luck. Guess I'll have to call Garmin for help. I have a big race coming up and can't have a malfunction on this device.
