1030 + gradient issue

My new 1030 plus is a replacement for 810.

the gradient is so slow the climb is half over before it is correct. Speed display jumps all over the place. Strava routes are nearly impossible to load.

I had them last week, but they have now disappeared. Is this really the best that Garmin can do?

what a rubbish device.

  • I have reached out to you directly multiple times going back to May with no responses so far. I genuinely am sorry that you are frustrated with the 1030 Plus/are experiencing issues, but I have not received any responses to my requests.

  • are you *seriously* saying altitude lags behind by 10s or so, *by design*?

A delay in Grade by up to 10-15 seconds is within our expectations due to filtering/recording methods. This is an effort to avoid an overly noisy Grade value.

Specifically, what kind of delay are you experiencing? The reports of 30+ seconds from some users point to a hardware issue that may need an replacement to resolve.

  • You have had files sent to you- you can also read the comments on here that describe the nature of the problem, as I have.  You are engaging in delay tactics.  I have composed my letter to

and will be posting it tomorrow.  Customer services have reached out and offered to replace with a new device.  I will take them up on this and see it that helps but the whole affair leaves a bad taste.  I have three Garmin head units, a Garmin watch, Garmin power pedals and a Tacx Neo 2.  I am heavily invested in the Garmin world and am so disappointed at the service level we are getting and your recent comment suggesting a 15 second delay is acceptable.  How come mu iphone and my Wahoo don't have such a delay!

You need to commit to a time line to resolve this otherwise it is all empty words.

  • I have a 500, 800 and 1000. Those have all been responsive and stable for elevation and grade to within maybe three seconds. My 830 and it appears the entire "30 series except for the 1030 all have the same delay issue. Is there any possibility that the programed time or distance for updating could be a user setting?

  • Exactly. A reasonable margin of error? Where is the limit then? No matter how badly the most expensive device on the market works, can GARMIN answer us that it is a reasonable error that falls within "their reasonable margins of error"?
Why doesn't GARMIN clearly warn you of these errors before selling the device to you? The name of all this is "huge scam hoax"
  • In this case, it would be better to allow the user to set the filter parameters in a certain range in order to achieve results that suit him better.

  • You need to commit to a time line

In regards to a timeline, this would be up to you local support team that you have already been in contact with as I do not have access to this information for all locations globally.

  • After reviewing internally, we have found that the devices showing a delay in Grade by up to 10-15 seconds are operating within our expectations. This is due to how we filter/record this information, and is done to avoid erratic Grade values.

For users seeing the delays in Grade of 20-30+ seconds, please reach out to your local support team as this may be hardware-related.
