1030 + gradient issue

My new 1030 plus is a replacement for 810.

the gradient is so slow the climb is half over before it is correct. Speed display jumps all over the place. Strava routes are nearly impossible to load.

I had them last week, but they have now disappeared. Is this really the best that Garmin can do?

what a rubbish device.

  • Yes, that is exactly what often happens to me too when I use ClimbPro. ClimbPro usually says to me that I have still going up 10 /20 seconds after I finish climbing. Also I have the 2/4 °celsius  higher temperature and 10/15 seconds lag of gradient

  • Sorry, i made it public right now

  • I've only used 'Follow a Course' with a smart trainer. I had noticed this behaviour from ClimbPro but put it down to an artefact of smart trainer integration and that the position on the course and the elevation/gradient are simulated.

It seemed to be related to the distance between the next few track points following the summit of the climb. The further apart they are, the longer it takes ClimbPro to respond.

(The 'Follow a Course' feature for smart trainers is currently broken in 4.18 and 4.19 beta firmwares so I can't test this at present.)

  • I did a test also with my old 810 and the results were much better then my 1030+ comparing at the same time.

and at the end of the climb when going down the 1030+ was still going up for a couple of seconds  at least 10 sec.

after all that time its no longer a option to return the unit Disappointed

  • All of us was swendled.

  • if you aren't getting data, can I install the beta to help this along.

  • Hello

I also have an extremely long lag with the gradient indication.

I can finish a climb and the gradient still indicates close to flat (from before it started). And after reaching the top and the terrain becoming flat again, it starts to show the gradient of the climb just finished.

Also, yesterday, I was climbing what I estimate a  6% hill, and my screen showed a -3% gradient.

Also, the Climbpro says the remaing average gradient is 4% and I finish the climb with a 1% reading.

Any way to determine if my unit is faulty or if it is s a software problem?

    Thanks !

Edit: Sadly I replaced my 1030 that did not seem to have this problem with rhis 1030+.

  • Whatever it is Garmin are not working hard enough to fix it.  There are lots of us identifying the issue, we have shared data and yet there is no resolution.  Garmin are essentially ignoring us in the hope we will go away.  Don't let them win they have a responsibility to put this right.
