GPS Firmware Issue - Won't Update To 4.8 - No GPS Signal

My 1030 Plus won't update from 4.5 to 4.8 no matter what I try. Also it does not pick up a GPS signal.

Out of the box it worked once and then not again.

I have removed the Remotesw folder and synced with Garmin Express multiple times, done full factory reset etc.

The display repeatedly shows the following message "GPS firmware updated successfully".

I have a support ticket in with Garmin but it takes a long time to get any reply.

Any ideas?

Just to add, when I delete the Remotesw folder and sync with GE it tells me 4.8 is available and then looks to install it. I then reboot the Edge and it says updating firmware. Check the info and it says it is still on 4.5 and EPO missing.

Same exact issue.. It really saddens me since its a new device.

Garmin have now accepted this as a fault and raised a case for me, waiting on their reply.

What I have done though as a work round is this;

1). Disable WIFI on the Garmin.

2). Connect to laptop and delete the RemoteSW folder in the Garmin folder.

Now as long as you don't connect it back to WIFI or use Garmin Express on a computer to update it will work fine. It will connect to Garmin Connect Mobile app on your smartphone to sync rides etc. It has to use WIFI or Garmin Express to get firmware updates so by not using either it is fine until Garmin resolve it.

Is there any news here? Have the same problem with a new Garmin Edge 1030 Plus and update to firmware 5.20. Then always GPS firmware. loop.

Hi,

Afraid you have a faulty unit which will need replacing under warranty.

You'll need to raise a ticket with Garmin support and go from there. They will ask you to do numerous tests and send them diagnostic files but in the end it will be a new unit.

Thank you very much. I have returned the device to the dealer. With a new device I was able to do the update.
