Pairing failed (constant)

Hello,

I've just received my 1030 Plus and am attempting to pair it to my OnePlus 5T Android phone (running Android 10)

I connected the Edge to my Garmin Express and updated to 2.30 already

Pairing fails every time I try it - and (as a helpdesk troubleshooter for PCs myself) I'm pretty sure I've tried all the fixes from other threads about BT pairing troubleshooting.

It fails at about the 25% mark on the status bar on the "Pairing completing" screen. It seems to have already added it to the phones BT device list (as I typically go back and forget it each time)

Retrying yields no different result.

Tried:

Powering off both devices

Powering off BT on each and both devices

Forgetting the Edge in the BT device list

Full factory reset on the Edge

Turning off wifi and NFC on the phone leaving only BT on.

Many repeats

Thought a thread might be the next best place to start as I'd really like this to work out as my Edge1000 is really on it's last legs. (and I go back as far as the Edge 705 - in orange and blue!)

  • Also tried: Uninstalling and re-installing the Garmin Connect app on the phone.

The app GarminConnect has to be open on your phone, you know that? Sorry, can’t help you then, works with iPhone here.

  • Yeah thanks. I have the app (paired with Edge 1000, 820 before that) I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app is all. It did not make any difference. I know it's sometimes a rocky start with a new Garmin device but it gets tiring..

I have the same problem with a oneplus 5 (after update to android 10). Tried all solutions, but unsuccessfully. My Fenix 5 plus Has no issues.

  • That's very interesting. Are you saying it was paired before the Android 10 update and then it stopped? Or that you had Android 10 and then couldn't pair the 1030+?

I have a Vivoactive 3 and my prev Edge 1000 paired to the phone without any issues.

I know the phone is 3 years old but I'd still expect support (especially as it just received the Android OS update)

If this can't be remedied within 30 days I'd guess I'm best to return the 1030+ until such time as I upgrade to a new phone.

    Garimn? Any thoughts?

It was paired but didn’t connect Anymore after the android update. I tried all possible solutions. Phone and edge 1030 see each other, but adding the edge to garmin connect stops at let’s say 40%.

  • So it seems it's an issue with the Android 10 build on the OnePlus 5 and 5T (at least) that is primarily between Garmin Connect and the Edge 1030+

While this device is new for me - I do see it get added under the Phone Bluetooth during the attempt to  pair in Garmin Connect itself. (I remove it and the next attempt will add it again.

Perhaps this will help Garmin identify the issue.

Interestingly I bought a Bluetooth earbud that arrived the same day which paired normally (via the phone BT menu). My VA3 continues to function and update as previously.

  • Same issue here. Such basic stuff....again, how does this get through any kind of testing that Garmin should be doing pre-launch (and the lessons learned from previous device issues - this is well logged on the 1030)? I took the device back to the shop, got it swapped and the new one worked fine. Not the most ideal solution but I did everything as suggested (deleting apps/turn off turn etc. etc. etc. etc.) but it is clearly a bug.

  • Hi, I just wanted to confirm - you swapped the device for the exact same model - and the replacement worked fine?

Can I also ask what kind of phone you have?

    Thanks!

  • Sure. Swapped for exactly the same device. The first Edge1030+ just wouldnt connect to Bluetooth depite all the process and recommendations made. Swapped for exactly same model Edge1030+ and it worked fine first time. My phone is an iPhone 11 Pro
