Pairing failed (constant)

Hello,

I've just received my 1030 Plus and am attempting to pair it to my OnePlus 5T Android phone (running Android 10)

I connected the Edge to my Garmin Express and updated to 2.30 already

Pairing fails every time I try it - and (as a helpdesk troubleshooter for PCs myself) I'm pretty sure I've tried all the fixes from other threads about BT pairing troubleshooting.

It fails at about the 25% mark on the status bar on the "Pairing completing" screen. It seems to have already added it to the phones BT device list (as I typically go back and forget it each time)

Retrying yields no different result.

Tried:

Powering off both devices

Powering off BT on each and both devices

Forgetting the Edge in the BT device list

Full factory reset on the Edge

Turning off wifi and NFC on the phone leaving only BT on.

Many repeats

Thought a thread might be the next best place to start as I'd really like this to work out as my Edge1000 is really on it's last legs. (and I go back as far as the Edge 705 - in orange and blue!)

  • Oh sorry, yes 4.21.1 Thumbsup

  • Just so you don't...

I tried updating my Garmin Connect to the current version (6/29/2020) in the sim hope that it would be OK now that the device is paired. Of course it disconnected the 1030+ and would not reconnect it.

So I went back to 4.21.1 and re-paired it again and it's back to functioning again.

Maybe I'll try updating Garmin Connect around Christmas time...

  • I was able to get 4.22 to work on my Moto G7.  I had tried 4.22.1 and it didn't work.  But, before I loaded 4.22, I reset my connection settings on my Moto and the BT connected with my Edge 1030.  4.22.1 might have worked if I would have reset my connect.  But, It's connected now so not going to take the chance.

    My suggestion is that:

    1. Delete Garmin Connect

    2. Reset you connection on your phone

    3. Install old Version of Garmin Connect 4.22.1 or 4.22

    4. Connect BT as usual

  • I also used the Connect 4.22 to finally get the Edge 1030 plus initially connected to my OnePlus 5T with Android 10.

I now updated to the latest version and will share the further experience.

Thanks everyone who contributed with tips and tricks here.

  • The latest version (as of 2020-07-15) does not work with Oneplus 5T (Android 10) and Edge 1030 plus.
I tried all versions available on apkmirror from 4.21 up to 4.31.1 and now stay with 4.31.1 which works perfectly fine.
The 4.32.x versions are claimed to be buggy (comment on APMirror) so I did no try them.
If you want a more or less recent version it seems to be safe to go up to 4.31.1 (my initial pairing was done with 4.22 - then updated without uninstalling GC up to 4.31.1).
Hope Garmin will fix these issues soon.

  • Same thing happened to me.  Android updated and pairing to my 1030 failed.  I had to  re-install a previous version of Garmin Connect app to get it to work.  So I believe there is an issue with the updated Garmin app and Android 10 that's not working  Still running old version of GC and working fine.  Waiting for an Android and or GC update before I try again.  If you go this route before installing Garmin app and trying to re-connect, reset all your android connection setting by going to settings, reset, rest connections.  Otherwiise you will still have problems.

I have the same issue with Oneplus 5 running Android 10. Once GC 4.21.1 is installed, it works fine, coupling is OK but i am still unable to get apps from Connect IQ...

  • Hi Guys,

FYI I'm having the same isues with GCM 4.32.1 and Xiaomi Note 9 pro (Andoid 10) on an Edge 530 (v5.5.0) gets to 1/3 config in GCM and stalls. Works fine on my old Android 9 phone and iOS 13.  Posting to track the thread.

I'll try your downgrade trick and see if that works

    Thanks

    Simon

I had the same problem while trying to pair the 1030 Plus to my iPhone 11 Pro. It took something like 15 or 20 attempts to get pairing to work.

Anyway, I finally got it paired. But now when I connect it to my Mac using Garmin Express, it says the maps need to be updated no matter how many times I update them. Uggh.

So far the Edge 1030 Plus seems like a big downgrade in reliability from the Edge 1030 (non plus version.)

Same problem here, my new edge 1030 plus won't pair with my iphone 11 pro. I tried every step over and over again, but it just does not pair. I hope the next software update can fix this, because this really sucks.
